Nacee explains why gospel musicians haven't performed at Indigo 02

Nacee Nacee

Ghanaian musicians performing at Indigo at the O2 does not happen often. Few of the country’s best musicians like Sarkodie and Shatta Wale have staged memorable concerts at the 2750 capacity live music club.

It is believed that being able to organise a concert at Indigo at the O2 shows how big an artiste is in his motherland. No Ghanaian gospel musician has performed at the venue for the past years and Nacee seems to know why.

According to him, event organisers are not willing to pay the amount due gospel musicians so until they are ready to pay what gospel musicians deserve, the history of no Ghanaian gospel artiste performing at Indigo at the O2 will continue.

He also said on Peace FM Saturday that if event organisers give them such platforms and promote it as they do for secular musicians, gospel artistes will also give event goers value for their money as some Ghanaian hiplife and dancehall musicians have done.

“The cooperate body wants us to give the word of God for free. When you give them a charge when they approach you for a show taking into consideration your band and other factors, they question why you are selling the word of God.

I remember Socrate saying sometime ago that gospel musicians should perform for free. It will be difficult for event organiser to pay an artiste what is due them if they do not understand that at that level it is our work. If they think we should give for free then I’m not sure we can perform at Indigo.

If organisers make up their mind that whether gospel, dancehall or hiplife deserves same promotion and gives us same platform and attention, we can perform at Indigo” Nacee told Kwasi Aboagye, host of the show.

He congratulated Shatta Wale for a successful concert he put together at Indigo at the O2 on Friday, August 26.
