My first film was a NAFTI student production – David Dontoh

Of all the numerous local and international movies that he has stared in, veteran actor David Dontoh says his first was a film produced by a student of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI).

The movie titled ‘The Way to Shame’ was produced and directed by one Alex Bannerman who was his schoolmate in fulfillment of his academic qualification.

David Dontoh made this revelation during his interview on Eezy 107.5 fm’s ‘Morning Edition.’

He recounted how in 1980 he had gone to buy some newspapers in Dansoman and bumped into Alex Bannerman who was also in the area shooting a film. However, unfortunately for him, the person who was supposed to play the lead role did not show up.

‘So whiles returning with my newspapers, Alex caught up with me, begged and requested that i play the lead role’

‘He was very convincing so I accepted to play the role and the rest is history,’ he revealed.

David Dontoh had his elementary education in Cape Coast, Winneba and Abakranpa, all in the Central Region. He then continued to Apam Secondary School from Form One to Upper Six. For the sixth form, he read Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

After the sixth form course, David worked briefly with his father at APPLE (Association of People for Practical Life Education), a subsidiary of USAID at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region.
