Musicians advised to use songs to educate people on HIV/AIDS

Kumasi, Oct 9, GNA- Musicians have been advised not to focus their music solely on entertaining people but also create awareness and educate people on the dangers of the HIV/AIDS.

Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo/Suame, said it is only when musicians are able to use their songs to fight social vices and ill health, that their compositions could have positive impact on the nation.

The MP was launching a cassette album entitled, "Jesus Ne Wo Din" released by Mr Collins Adjei-Boampong and a group known as "The Delegates" in Kumasi last Sunday.

The album has 10 tracks with two of the songs focused on the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

"Since majority of Ghanaians enjoy and listen to music, it is an appropriate tool that could be employed to help people change their attitude so that they do not fall victim to the HIV/AIDS", he said.

Mr Adjei-Boampong, leader of 'The Delegates', acknowledged that AIDS had assumed an alarming proportion in Ghanaian society and it was imperative for all individuals and organisations to team up with the government to find a permanent solution to the menace.

He gave the assurance that he and his group would broaden their compositions to include messages on the disease.
