Music stakeholders not happy with GHAMRO

A concerned group of stakeholders in the music industry have petitioned the management board of Ghana Music Right Organisation (GHAMRO) to express worries over the way the organisation’s issues have been handled so far by the newly-appointed board.

The stakeholders have also expressed concern about the board’s failure to collaborate with the stakeholders to put in measures to facilitate a smooth running of the day-to-day activities of GHAMRO.

According to the stakeholders, although they had expected a general meeting be held to introduce the members of the newly-appointed board after the famous court case instigated by Nana Kwame Ampadu and 99 others against the past administration, this had proved futile.

They stressed that ever since the new board took over from the previous one headed by Carlos Sakyi, it had failed to involve the stakeholders in the decision-making processes.

The stakeholders added that “all information we have received so far is from the press conference held some few weeks ago and which we all agree was a failure. At this press conference, the chairman of the board promised sending letters and himself coming to meet with the stakeholders. These promises, unfortunately, up till now have not been fulfilled.”

They, however, requested that a meeting be called immediately where they could discuss issues affecting the operations of GHAMRO as well as the music industry to avoid any agitation in the near future.

The stakeholders also stated categorically that the court ruling against the previous board did not mandate the new GHAMRO board to conduct any election, adding that GHAMRO’s elections must stop with immediate effect until annual general meeting with all the stakeholders is held.
