Man remanded for petroleum products deal

Accra July 24, GNA - A 36 year old unemployed man, who allegedly collected petroleum products worth 136.5 million cedis belonging to two oil firms and bolted, appeared before a Circuit Court on Thursday charged with stealing.

Kweku Appiah, who pleaded not guilty, has been remanded into prison custody by the court to reappear on August 18.

Prosecuting Inspector Joseph Hemeng told the court that the accused was a former manager of the Goil Filling Station at Nsawam whiles the complainant is an employee of Universal Oil Company Limited. Prosecution said on March 31, the accused went to the Universal Company limited located at Madina and introduced himself as manager of the Nsawam Goil filling station who would like to be supplied with petroleum products on credit. The Prosecutor said the accused was supplied with 13,500 litres of petrol at the cost of 60 million cedis and after selling it, Appiah bolted.

In the other instance, the Prosecution said in February, Appiah collected a quantity of petroleum products valued at 76.5million cedis to be sold but he was not seen again.

Inspector Hemeng said on June 18 Appiah was spotted at the Cocoa Affairs Courts and he was apprehended and handed over to the Police.
