Man murders his girlfriend

Stephen Nkrumah, a 29-year-old employee with the Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL), on Monday appeared before the Sekondi Magistrate's court for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Ama Kuruwa, 36.

The court remanded him to re-appear on April 17.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Joseph Hedidor said Kuruwa and Krampah were lovers and both worked at GREL and on January 1, the deceased left her village to collect 20,000 cedis that the accused owed her.

Mr Hedidor said when Kuruwa demanded the money from the accused a quarrel ensued between them during which the deceased allegedly slapped the accused with her sandals.

Krampah got angry and hit the deceased's neck and fell unconscious. She was taken to the Dixcove Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The post-mortem indicated that she died through respiratory failure due to fracture of the neck base, the prosecution said.
