MUSIGA Honours Obour

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSICA) over the weekend honored legendry musician Daddy Lumba for his contribution to the Ghana music industry.

The award was presented to Lumba by MUSIGA President Bice Obour Osei Kufuor on behalf of the union during the Legends and Legacy Ball held at the Accra International Conference Centre to celebrate the life and achievements of Daddy Lumba.

“We must learn to honour our own when they are alive and not wait till they are dead. Daddy Lumba is a legend and we are doing this to appreciate his contribution to the music industry. There are other achieves we would be honoring soon even as we encourage all stakeholders to unite and help transform our music industry to make it lucrative and attractive for u all,” Obour explained to NEWS-ONE.

A touching citation but together by MUSIGA on honour of Lumba on the night read: “You were born and named Charles Kojo Fosu. From the early days when you were part of the Lumba Brothers singing group, through to when you became known as Daddy Lumba and later as DL, you have remained a charming enigma whose selfless contribution to the Ghana music industry has been pivotal.

“Year after year, decade after decade, you have held Ghanaians and music lovers from other parts of the world spell-bond with your songs that have remained proudly Ghanaian and of a fine standard that raises eyebrows and positively affects lives even on the international scene. “You have continued to mentor and impact rare music skills into people who have turned up as celebrated musicians and this is one of your loudest legacies.

“Your contribution to the Ghana music industry would forever be engraved in gold when the music history of Ghana is chronicled. “Charles Kojo Fosu, you are a living testimony that the contemporary Ghanaian musician is not just an entertainer but an entrepreneur, an employer and a critical investor whose works can reap great and enviable dividends which if well harnessed would be enjoyed by posterity.

“Charles Kojo Fosu you are a music hero worth celebrating. You are an institution worth learning from. You are an inspiration worth an ovation. You have made musicians proud.

You have made Ghana proud. The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is proud of you and on this historic day, Saturday the 12th of November 2011 is proud to confer on you this honour as the Prodigy of Contemporary Highlife Music. Congratulations Daddy Lumba.”
