Veteran Ghanaian musician Barima Sidney has apologised to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, for a song he released in the past.

He recalled that before the 2020 general elections, he created the song 'Papa No' to reflect social media trends at the time.

The term 'Papa No' was popular on social media, which inspired him to compose the song. However, some people misinterpreted his intent, suggesting he was targeting Mahama, who was associated with the term.

In a JoyPrime TV interview and monitored by GhanaWeb, Sidney took the moment to apologise to Mahama if the song contributed to his 2020 election loss. He clarified that he harbored no ill intention toward the ex-president when producing the track.

During the interview, host Roselyn Felli asked, "Someone mentioned that you contributed to John Mahama's failure to win power in 2020 because of your 'Papa no.'"

Barima Sidney replied, "I'd like to clarify the 'Papa No' situation. There were two ladies discussing 'Papa no' on social media. They're well-known celebrities here: Gloria and Tracy. I found it intriguing, so I went to the studio and released it at midnight. By 9:00 am, it had spread everywhere.

"I didn't target anyone specifically. But then, some individuals compiled clips of the former president and paired them with my music, using it for their promotion. Consequently, people assumed it was my doing, but I was unaware. I'm using this chance to apologise to the former president, His Excellency John Mahama. It wasn't me; others were responsible."

Sidney's 'Papa No' song became a trending hit in 2020.
