Celebrated Gospel musician The Great Ampong, known in private as Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong has said that his hit song ‘‘Akok? Funu’’ was loved by high ranking Ghanaian personalities.

Speaking with Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa Entertainment on Kasapa 102.5FM, the ace musician noted that his personal interaction with Ex President J. A. Kuffour, President John Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo he was enthused by the good comments from these political personalities about the impact of the song.

Ampong added that these personalities told him of his voice being unique, his songs being Biblical and his proficiency in the local language (Twi).

“I had the opportunity to chat with Ex President Kufour in his house, he then asked how is Ghana Music Awards organised and I told him Papa I have no idea but he said that sometimes when he sees people like me (Ampong) not being awarded for good songs like ‘Akok? Funu’ he feels sad.

“I also had another opportunity to meet President Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo and they said similar things about my hit song ‘Akok? Funu’ which according to them inspires them a lot,” Ampong added.

He said three things about me that in Ghana he enjoys my song because of my voice.

Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong is the kingpin of the trio together with Cee and Showboy. He has been in music since 1996 and has come out with a number of hit songs including “Jordan”, “Osofoo Kasa”, “Hossana” before later teaming up with Isaac and Cee.

He came to Accra as a hustler in 1996 and to pursue a soccer career. Before then he had engaged in ‘galamsey’ activities at Tarkwa.

In Accra he did all sorts of jobs including the sale of Daily Graphic, while perching in a kiosk at North Kaneshie.

Ampong was a God-fearing young man who did song ministration at North Kaneshie SDA Church and at other big events. He said he once told his colleagues that it was time they came out with their own music to enhance their work.

He believes God has anointed him and He used him to write songs which he put together into an album and produced by BANDEX.

He says with the team he has at the moment it should be possible to dominate the gospel music scene in Ghana in the near future.
