Kings Radio Hits Asante Akim Airwaves

A new Frequency Modulation (FM) station, KINGS RADIO 100.3 FM, operated by Dulcet Broadcasting Ltd, has over the past couple of weeks, been on the air at Konongo, as the first radio station in Asante Akim.

Its test transmission hit the airwaves with both excitement and trepidation among the existing electronic media in Kumasi, particularly FM stations and TV3.

Listeners to and viewers of the affected media have complained that the transmission of Kings Radio was interfering with some broadcasts, including TV3, prompting a visit to the station by a monitoring team from the National Communications Authority (NCA).

According to the Managing Director of Kings Radio, Mr. Daniel Agyei, who spoke to The Chronicle on Thursday, the NCA identified a component known as "harmonis" as the one interfering with the television transmission.

He said the team had recommended one Mr. Larweh of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in Accra, who is due in Konongo on Friday, to rectify the fault.

Agyei said the monitoring team saw nothing wrong with the other aspects such as the inability of listeners to tune in to Luv, Ashh, OTEC and sometimes Fox FM stations, due to the new station's 5-kilowatt transmitter.

With "Yee sesa mo", meaning 'we are changing you' as the slogan, the M.D. said the objective was to introduce an active contribution towards the developmental needs of all segments of society.

The Kings Radio boss revealed that the name Kings signified authority and as far as FM stations were concerned, there would be no room for mediocrity. Sports, social, political and religious programmes would be of high quality, he assured.
