Kiki Banson to counter 'bogus' RTP Awards

Ghanaian businessman and CEO of EKB records, Kiki Banson has described as bogus and unprofessional the organization of the recently held Radio and Television personality awards.

The awards ceremony which came off Saturday October 4, is an annual event aimed at recognizing and rewarding 'seasoned' Radio and TV personalities who have contributed 'immensely' towards the development media work in Ghana, according to organizers.

Meanwhile, reports following the awards ceremony described the event as poorly organized and badly delivered.

A nominee for one of the categories, King Edward, was quoted by the Daily Guide newspaper to have said he was 'disappointed' in its delivery.

According to Edward, who was attending the event for the first time, the ceremony had a late start and was swamped with too many technical challenges. He added that organizers failed to call the nominees to inform them about their nominations, so most of them failed to attend they show.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with StarrFMonline.com, Kiki Banson agreed with Edward and said Ghanaian Radio and TV personalities deserve more respect than is shown them by the RTP team.

“These are people who carry the system! I don’t think you should give so much hard work and at the end of the year you get something like that” he said dispassionately in reference to the RTP award," he said.

Benson, who has been speaking to stakeholders, said, “this has prompted me to organize a proper awards scheme for the radio and TV personalities. I think they deserve much better than they get, and it’s something that am very passionate about and I think that it must be done properly. I want to put something up, something better next year.”

The EKB boss is recognized for his success in artiste management especially with Afro-Pop artiste Rebecca Acheampong, stage name, Becca.

Banson, who has been in charge of organizing the much talked about 'Becca Girl Talk Concert' , an annual Christmas event which started in 2011 said he would do a better job than the RTP organisers.

He further indicated, “I would have done everything differently, from A to Z. I would be more meticulous. From planning, the presentation of awards and the people who determine the segments.

"It should be detailed, and it should be something that all the stakeholders will be very proud of," he added.
