Kafui Danku’s ‘DEVIL IN A DRESS’ sold out at the premiere

The much talked about movie, Devil in a Dress, produced and starred by the prolific Ghanaian actress Kafui Danku, was sold out at its premiere at the Silverbird cinemas of the Accra Mall on Ghana’s Independence Day.

The cinema was packed for the first showing at 18:30 GMT with many struggling to get tickets to see what the ‘Devil in a Dress’ had to offer. The crowd was uncontrollable prompting management of the cinemas to open the emergency exit of the cinema hall after the first showing to ease human traffic.

The movie, written and directed by award-winning Pascal Amanfo, was showcasing the phony characteristics of Casanovas but this time around the men were on the losing side.

Bridging the gap between seasoned actors and the upcoming, good old Emmanuel Armah, Kalsoume Sinare and Mikki Osei Berko of Dada Boat fame featured alongside Kafui Danku, Majid Michel, Roselyn Ngissah and Kweku Elliot.

Also starring from Nigeria was presenter, actor, model and Big Brother Africa 5 winner, Uti Nwachukwu who played a bad boy role with Majid and Kweku Elliot. A surprise act by Ghanaian highlife giant, Ben Brako started the movie in a post-romantic scene with Kafui who drugged him for his money and fled the scene strategically.

The movie had a lot of asides (which is when a character speaks to the audience but unheard by other actors in a scene) where Kafui’s character schooled women about the games men play to get into their pants and how to beat them by their game. This made the movie slightly tangential from the other quality Ghanaian movies we see.

The pictures were of a good quality with camera shots up to standard. Sound was a little loud in the cinema but audible with sound effects capturing the mood represented.

Some movie lovers GhanaWeb spoke to were satisfied with the production as it depicted exactly what goes on in real life these days.

Others said they felt like they were being addressed directly which made them feel a part of the movie.

Devil in a Dress is a movie worth watching and capable of picking an award both domestically and internationally.
