Ghanaians asked to use culture and festivals to promote peace and unity

Winneba (C/R), Aug.14, GNA- The former Pro-Vice Chancellor of University College of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Robert Manford on Friday called on Ghanaians to use culture and festivals to help promote peace and unity in the country.

Professor Manford was the guest speaker at the central region second cycle schools Arts and Culture festival at Winneba.

The objective of the festival was to select a team to represent the region at the National Art and Cultural Festival at Bolgatanga from August 22 to 26, 2004.

He said that Music, dancing and drama provided social support for members of a community to explore individual interest and capabilities of living in peace.

The Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Justina Torgiagbour commended the government's effort at using festivals to promote peace and unity in the country.

She called on those who would be representing the region to work hard to improve their performance over that of last year. The region placed second in last year's competition.

The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Director of Education, Mr. Swanzy Essien, who chaired the function called for the reviving of Ghanaians rich cultures and traditions that contributed to the country's development.
