Former student wins Brong-Ahafo beauty contest

Sunyani, Oct 20, GNA - A 19-year old former student of Saint Louis Senior High School in Kumasi, Maame Ama Tiwaah, representing Sunyani Municipality, was at the weekend crowned the winner of the Miss Brong-Ahafo @ 50 Beauty Contest. The contest was organised in connection with the 50th anniversary celebration of the creation of the region.

For her prize Maame Tiwaah would take a trip to the United States. The event was heavily patronized by some prominent citizens of the region including the wife of

the Vice President, Mrs. Laudina Mahama, Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, regional minister and

his wife, some District and Municipal Chief executives as well as some chiefs and queen mothers. The auditorium of the Sunyani Polytechnic was beautifully decorated and draped in the national

colours and people formed long queues at the entrance to the venue giving security officers a hectic

time to control them. All 16 contestants generally gave a very good account of themselves, although shyness and

stage fright took a better part of some of them leading them to fumble with words in their delivery in

the fourth round. This was when they were asked to deliver their messages and to respond to questions from the

panel of judges on the achievements, challenges and prospects of the region. Five contestants - Maame Tiwaah, Juliet Pinaman Sabi, Miss Tano South, Anna Amankwah,

Miss Nkoranza South, Sarah Dewah, Miss Wenchi Municipality and Linda Gyamefua, Miss Asutifi

District - made it on the final list at the end of the first four rounds. It came as a very big surprise to some fans who had tipped Eva Yeboah representing the

Dormaa East to win the competition when her name was left out of those who made it to the final. She had shown much great oratory and natural disposition in her delivery in her native language. Artistes like Asem and Slim Busterr OD 4 set the auditorium into ecstasy and thrilled the fans

with their latest pieces. The position of first runner-up went to Miss Juliet Pinaman Sabi from Tano South and she will

take a trip to a European country as her prize, whilst the second runner up was Sarah Dewah, Miss

Wenchi and she would take a trip to an African country as her prize. The countries are yet to be

determined by the organizers. Other prizes for Miss Eloquence, Miss Personality, Miss Best Traditional Performer and Miss

Talent went to Sarah Dewah, Maame Tiwah, Anna Amankwah and Juliet Pinaman Sabi,

respectively. All 16 contestants were presented with sleek hand bags for participating in the beauty contest. 20 Oct 09
