Fake security official dupes prophet

Kwadwo Baah Nuako, 37 a cripple, was last week arrested by the Koforidau Police for posing as an operative of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and duping a man of God. The suspect, a citizen of Aheneman-Kokobeng, near Bekwai in Ashanti, was arrested upon a tip-off at Anyinam in the Eastern Region.

He is said to have used the names of prominent government officials including Senior Minister J.H Mensah, Government Spokesman Kwabena Agyepong, and Captain Nkrabea Effah-Dartey (rtd) Minister of Local Government, to dupe his victims.

Speaking to newsmen, the Regional Commander, Emmanuel B. Ansong, said the Police had a hint that somebody had introduced himself to the Prophet in charge of the African Faith Tabernacle Church, Odeefo David Nkansah, at Anyinam, as a BNI agent.

The suspect said he had connections with ‘big shots’ in government who could help him in his litigation. The Prophet, upon hearing this, accommodated Nuako for three months. According to Ansong, the suspect took ?215,000 from Prophet Nkansah to take him to Accra to meet his “connection” men.

When they got to Accra, the suspect directed the Prophet to the offices of Kwabena Agyepong and Captain Effa-Dartey but refused to go with him. That made the Prophet to become suspicious and he made a report to the police.

According to him, he went to Captain Effa-Dartey (retired) and told a lie that he came from Berekum, he said he had pity on him and gave a cheque for ?120,000 from his Common Fund which the suspect cashed. But the suspect later on told newsmen that he only posed as a BNI man so that he could be catered for by the Prophet, considering his handicap. The suspect is to appear before court soon.
