Ex-convict goes in again for two years

Nkawie (Ash), July 19, GNA - A 20-year-old unemployed who finished serving a nine-month prison sentence barely two months ago for stealing cocoa beans, was on Friday sentenced to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing two sheep valued at 600,000 cedis. Kwadwo Appiah, the convict, pleaded guilty to the charge. Police Inspector Ben Antwi told the Nkawie district magistrate court, presided over by Mr Kwaku Dampare that at about 3 am on Friday, July 18, 2003, police on patrol met the accused at Toase near Nkawie carrying a sack. The police, he said, decided to inspect the contents of the sack and when it was opened, they found two dead sheep in it. Inspector Antwi said the accused was arrested and during interrogation, he mentioned one Madam Adwoa Ampong as the owner of the sheep who sent him to sell them for her. He said when Madam Ampong was contacted, she denied ownership of the animals and Appiah was charged with stealing them.
