Drama galore at Sports journalists’ wedding

The dream of a pretty young lady who works with the St Joseph’s Hospital at Koforidua, to marry a popular sports journalist and former CEO of B/A United, turned into a nightmare when another woman called Mommy popped up at the wedding ceremony at the weekend to claim that the bridegroom is her bona fide husband with whom she has two children.

The second lady’s unexpected intrusion, with pictures to back her claims that Charles Kwadwo Ntim, popularly known as Micky Charles, is still her husband, brought the well-advertised wedding at the Calvary Presbyterian Church at Nsukwao in Koforidua to an abrupt end, as pastors who were about to officiate the wedding ceremony had to invite the lady into a marathon meeting after which the wedding ceremony was cancelled.

Invited guests and an array of journalists and media men, who had gathered to witness the wedding touted as ‘a wedding with a class’, were left in awe as the lady, aided by her family members and some sympathizers, ranted in the church continuously that Micky Charles who was about to wed Millicent Okoh Agyeman, is her wedded husband.

Just as the officiating pastor announced that “anyone who has anything against the wedding should say it now or forever hold his or her peace,” Mommy sprang up from the congregation and asked: “What is Micky saying he is going to do?” referring to the bridegroom.

“I am officially married to Micky and we have two children with a marriage certificate to prove it,” she said, brandishing her marriage certificate and pictures of her marriage ceremony and that of the children and Micky to the congregation, with the rest of her family members and friends also getting into the fray and casting insinuations and holding pictures of the ‘couple’.

The woman, who was shouting at the top of her voice, was invited by the officiating pastors to their office for a meeting after which the pastors advised that the wedding ceremony be cancelled.

The action of the Mommy, whom the press learnt lives in Tema, dealt a big blow to the dream of the bride-to-be and many of Micky Charles’ friends including Abeiku Santana of Adom FM, whom the media learnt was there to emcee the programme.

Micky Charles, a former chief executive of the Brong Ahafo United Football Club, also once worked with radio BAR as a sports presenter. According to information gathered , he adequately publicized the wedding and even did not invite any media men from Brong Ahafo and pumped so much money into it to make it a memorable one.

The church later called in the police to give some protection to the lady who was kept at the pastor’s office. A source at the church told Press yesterday that the church did all due diligence but the man hid the truth from them. “I can say the man whom we learnt was also living abroad was so wicked to do this,” the source said.

Pastors of the church were greatly disappointed as they thought Micky did not tell them the truth. “Micky came and told us that he has one child and is not married to anybody, so we took them through about six months of counseling only for us to find out at the eleventh hour that he has another wife with whom he has two children,” a pastor of the Calvary Church, who pleaded anonymity, told the press.

In a related development, Micky is alleged to have sent a death threat text message to Mommy and she has now reported to the police for his arrest. Rumours have it that even though Micky Charles is married to the lady in question, the marriage is ‘hanging’ due to some problems; but it has not been dissolved officially.
