Diary: Fresh Music Clique from the Rap Powerhouse.

By Hi Newspaper

Coinz and Tyme make up the freshest music duo from Tema, the new rap powerhouse of Ghana. On hearing two of the three tracks off their promo CD, Hi's Nenebi Tony invited Diary to pay us a visit at our offices in Accra.

“Tema is gradually becoming a ghetto where people are aggressive about using their talent to affect society; rap just happens to be the most recognized talent there.” Coinz answered when asked about the motivation driving the cargo hold of talents coming out of the Habour city each week.

“We, the youth of Tema, have a lot to say and we strongly believe the best way people would listen to us is when we put our message across through music. Music has been the single most powerful tool of communication.” Added Coinz.

Obviously the two seems to know their game and ready to create a brand for themselves in the process. So far the songs 'Azingele' and 'Feel Free' are enjoying good airplay on some radio stations, especially in Greater Accra, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo region, signifying that the duo, made up of brothers, Antwi Baako Seth (Tyme) and Antwi Baako Prince (Coinz), bring a lot to the music table. They have been rapping for the past 8 years as undergrounds acts.

5 years ago, they moved from their native Akyem Oda to the port city primarily to position themselves better to access opportunities as young people trying to survive. They are both students of IPMC; while Tyme, the elder is studying Software Engineering, Coinz is reading Hardware and Networking.

“We chose the name Diary because of what it means. Diary is a small book you keep with you to record daily happenings. It simply means that our rap is based on our everyday life. Things that happen to us and things we see happen to others. So our music is the kind every Tom, Dick and Harry can relate to,” said Tyme, who appears to be the more vocal of the two.

Their promo CD has three singles 'Feel Free' (Featuring Guru), 'Straight' and 'Azingele' (featuring Dr Cryme). The group is currently managed by WILFRED Obrempong KWAKU AGYEI, elder brother of the duo.
