Club Miss Tourism sets standard with assessment tour

The Eco-Ambassador for this year’s World Environment Day programme, Miss Emmanuella Esinam Awunyo, Club Miss Tourism has initiated the first part of her impact assessment tour in Tema.

The tour forms part of the designed activities for the World Environment Day 2013 that was organized by Robert Amiteye in collaboration with the Nyaniba Health Assistants Training School and supported by Hon. Kofi Brako, Member of Parliament for Tema Central Constituency.

Miss Emmanuella Esinam Awunyo, toured the schools that participated in the Tema Goes Green programme to access the impact of her engagement to help make good meaning of such activities in order to encourage and strengthen the call for environmentally responsible actions.

The pupils and students in the various schools demonstrated a good account of their participation. They answered questions on the theme, “Think. Eat. Save” and gave practical initiatives to address the food loss and waste challenge.

At Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School, the visiting team was impressed with the demonstrations of annotated diagrams depicting the need for all students to join hands to buy what they can eat and to save coins to help the needy.

Miss Christabella Naki Amiteye, a representative of the Club presented one innovative bin to facilitate the separation of plastic water sachet litter to promote plastic recycling and generate income.

The innovative bins are part of the programme by Hon. Kofi Brako to provide schools to curtail the plastic litter menace and to improve environmental sanitation within the Tema Central constituency.

The other schools, St. Paul Methodist, Tema Regular Baptist, Community 8 No.3 Junior High, Deks Educational, Tema Presbyterian Senior High, Community 7 No. 1&2 cluster of schools, gave fantastic account of the knowledge acquired on preventing fire outbreaks and the approach to fire fighting.

They also showed appreciation for their practical involvement in the health walk and demonstration of the waste separation process. They however, requested a routine training to engage them in other practical techniques to sustain the impact.

The Nyaniba Health Assistants Training School engaged the visiting team during their worshipping hour. Participants on the impact assessment demonstrated understanding and appreciation for the Tema Goes Green programme.

They emphasized that healthcare being a way of life ought to be the interest of citizens to adopt preventive health lifestyles.

Mr Robert Amiteye, Project Coordinator of the Environmental Health Club challenged the students to become agents of positive influence in their homes and other places of engagement.

This, he said to all the pupils and students in the various schools. He added that, the success of the programme largely depended on the participants abilities to make good account of the activities in their daily actions.

Mr Amiteye was thankful to the heads of the various institutions, teachers, students, the Ghana Police Service, Dosty Pharmacy for the Rescue Van and Mrs Emma Chinery as the supporting nurse.
