Cinematograph Board calls for withdrawal of unclassified films

Accra, Oct. 4, GNA - The Ghana Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control (GCEBC) on Tuesday called for the immediate withdrawal of all films/video, which have not been classified by the board to have them previewed and classified. A statement signed by Mr Kwamina Sakyi for President of the Board said it had come to the notice of the Board that practitioners in the film industry continued to flout the authority of the Council with impunity.

The statement reminded all stakeholders that under the Cinematograph Act 1961, the GCEBC was empowered to preview films/video for classification before they were exhibited or sold to the public. This demand includes locally produced films/video and imported ones, which must be submitted to the Board's secretariat. The statement also reminded stakeholders in the film industry that it was an offence to market or exhibit any film/video or poster, which had not been classified by the Board.

It said was illegal and an offence for an association or organisation to take up the duties of the Board.
