Breman Brakwa holds durbar to climax Odwira

Brakwa (C/R), Jan 26, GNA - The chiefs and people of Breman Brakwa in the Central Region, have held a grand durbar to climax the celebration of their two-week Odwira festival.

The festival, which was usually climaxed with durbars, had for decades not been organized, preventing its citizens abroad to partake in it and also contribute their quota towards development projects.

This year's festival dubbed: 93Coming Home for Accelerated Development", involved the purification of stools, family reunion, solidarity, mourning and jubilation of the people.

Addressing the people, Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, the District Chief Executive of Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, stressed that for the National Democratic congress (NDC) government to achieve the 93Better Ghana Agenda", it behoves on the people to strongly rally behind the government.

The DCE stressed further that it was only through 93The Better Ghana Agenda" that Ghanaians could improve upon their living conditions, adding that, the District Assembly, within one-and-half years, had been able to provide Breman Brakwa with development projects.

She listed the projects to include the construction of a three-unit classroom block, with computer laboratory, KVIP latrine, and the Brakwa Senior High/Technical School, which is expected to be formally opened this month.

Mrs Aboah urged the management of the Breman Brakwa 93Small Town Water System" to be transparent and accountable to the community, in respect of the proceeds from the sale of the water and that the District Assembly's future programme was to construct a modern market complex for the town.

The Chief of Brakwa, Nana Yamuah IV, appealed to the District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service to acquire a site plan for the Secondary-Technical School, to avoid future encroachment, as well as the extension of electricity to the school.

The Chief said the construction of a good road from Brakwa to Akim Akroso through Afofosu, would help provide easy transportation of passengers and goods from the Central to the Eastern Region.

According to Nana Yamuah the town would form a Community Environmental Committee, to implement the District Assembly bye-laws on sanitation, to help rid Breman of filth.

The Chairman for the durbar, Mr Anthony Effah, a Director of Fidelity Bank, and also a Board Member of the Breman Rural Bank, at Brakwa, noted that such durbars give credence to the community's capability and capacity to initiate development projects and therefore, advised the chiefs and elders of the town to organize durbars for the festival annually.

He also urged the citizens, especially those abroad to endeavour to return home occasionally to support ongoing social projects.

Mr Paul Collins Appiah-Ofori, Member of Parliament for the Constituency, the DCE, the Chairman for the occasion and Mr Godwyll Ansah, Head of the Legal Department of Amalgamated Bank Limited contributed a total sum of GH¢2,500 towards development projects in the town.

Other activities to celebrate the occasion included general cleaning, dances by the Asafo Companies, traditional games, film show, church service by local churches, cultural performance and quiz by school children.
