Beauticians undertake course to upgrade skills

Winneba, (C/R), Aug. 10, GNA - Two hundred and fifty beauticians from Gomoa and the Awutu-Afutu- Senya districts have undertaken a two-week intensive course to upgrade their knowledge and skills in hairdressing and the beautician profession.

It was jointly organised by the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHBA) and an Accra-based company, Soft Sheen Carson, producers of beautification creams.

Closing the workshop, Mr. J G B Siilo, District Co-ordinating Director for Awutu -Afutu -Senya, advised the participants to make good use of the knowledge and skills they have acquired at the course.

They should also comply with the law and regulations governing their profession by ensuring that the safety of their clients is protected. Mr. Siilo reminded the beauticians of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and counselled them to use the right instrument to protect their customers from contracting the disease.

He stressed the need for beauticians to ensure sound environmental hygiene practices at all times.

Mr. Sam Adeka, Training manager of the Company announced that similar workshops would soon take place in Cape Coast and Kumasi to cover about two thousand beauticians in the two cities and called for the co-operation of the regional leaders of GHBA to ensure the success of the programme.

Mr. Adeka said the rationale behind the training programme was to equip members of the Association with modern techniques to enable them to improve the beautification industry.

Madam Sarah Biney-Attah, Central Regional President of GHBA appealed to district assemblies in the region to channel part of their shares of the common fund to members of the Association to help promote their businesses to enable them train more girls in the community to become self-sufficient economically.
