Chiefs of Gomoa condemn the call for the removal of Gomoa West DCE

The Gomoa Akyempim chiefs have condemned the call made by the Chief Fisherman of Mumford, Nana Kow Kotu to President John Evans Atta Mills to remove the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, Mr. Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah from office.

The Chief Fisherman was alleged to have urged at a press conference at Mumford for the President to remove the DCE from office for non-performance and arrogant behaviour.

Addressing a press conference on Friday at Gomoa Assin, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, Omanhen flanked by the Adontenhen Nana Obentsir Kumah, Nifahen Nana Adabo Mensah and Bekumhen Nana Takyi Farah, said the DCE was not appointed for the people of Mumford alone and therefore, the Chief Fisherman has no right to call for his removal.

The Omanhen said no one person or a group of people has the right to speak for the whole district by calling for the removal of a public official appointed to serve the entire district.

“A chief fisherman cannot speak for the entire people of Gomoa,” he said, and urged the media to ensure that people who hold press conferences had authority to do so or the larger section of the people were represented.

Touching on the allegation against the DCE, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea said he found it difficult to understand what the Chief Fisherman meant by non-performance if the DCE could implement 110 projects in the district out of which eight were done in Mumford alone in three years.

He said because of the good works of the DCE, the people called him “Action Man” and any citizen of the district would testify the humility of Mr. Aidoo-Mensah.

“The DCE receives calls from everybody in the district and responses promptly to the calls,” Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea said.

He appealed to President Mills to treat the Chief Fisherman’s call with the contempt it deserves saying “we the chiefs, queens and the entire people of Gomoa West support the DCE and are happy with the good works he has been doing to improve the condition of our people.”

In a related development, the Gomoa West youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a press conference at Mumford to also condemn the Chief fisherman for bringing the district into disrepute.

The Youth Organiser, Mr. Kwabena Darko described the assertion of Nana Kow Kotu as being a member of the NDC as false saying “everybody at Mumford knows the party the Chief Fisherman belongs.”**
