Not having read the petition against Charlotte Osei, her purported response alone has uncovered the potential rot and landmines at the EC. On that basis alone she cannot coexist with her deputies. All must go or one group must go to safeguard the integrity of the Constitutional body which oversees such an important element of our democracy. By their actions, they have voluntarily smeared the Commission and undermined public trust. Azar is right. The EC as it stands now is dysfunctional and must be purged of its rot. Parliament must act quickly. The opposition, not unexpectedly will resist. The majority must not relent. It must mobilize the public. In a civilized society, the Policy will quickly open an investigative docket on both Charlotte Osei and her deputies. There is an element of criminality in their "you did this, and you did that" volley of accusations.

Ghana is bleeding with current bunch of thieves at public offices. All the commissioners need to be recycles, and if possible, be trial for corrupt practices.

From Day One, NPP never accepted Mrs. Osei as EC Chair, simply because she was appointed by the opposition NDC government. Removing Mrs. Osei has been NPP's plan even before they won the election and came into office. What we are witnessing now is simply the plan execution: GIVE A DOG A BAD NAME AND HANG IT! Yes, create real or a perception of turmoil at the EC, witch-hunt Mrs. Osei and tarnish her image, and then use those as excuse to justify her removal. This is part of the NPP government’s trend of removing key government appointees from office that were appointed under the ex-NDC administration. Even public servants have not escaped this trend.
Members of the EC including the deputies don’t appoint the EC Chair; if any of them can’t accept or work with the EC Chair, they should quit. This would not any different from a Cabinet member resigning his/her position because he/she can’t work with the President; or an employee quitting his/her position because he/she can’t work with the boss. It’s not the other way round.
And if there is suspicion of (financial) malfeasance in the EC, summons before parliament or so-called investigation by EOCO are unusual and extraordinary – it’s like deploying the nuclear bomb. The measured step should be to do a forensic audit using for instance the services of the Office of Comptroller and Accountant-General.
It’s time to see Ghana as Ghana, and not as NDC’s Ghana or NPP’s Ghana. There is strength in diversity!
