This government uses entrapment tax regimes to corner business. You cannot tax your way to create money for the government. I believe if they reduce the inefficiencies within the government sector they can make the monies that they want to earn.
Watch my words, BA will start diverting to other countries within the next few months and there will be no direct flights to London.
The local airline industry was thriving until they taxed it so much, now people have resorted to VIP et al and we are seeing the increase in road accidents again. Please stop buying those gas guzzler Land Cruisers for government officials and start living efficiently, tax is not the answer!!!!!!

Good job Mr Allotey, keep the good work. That's a good move because they can't take all the money outside the country.

You cannot take money that does not belong to you, all they are doing is transferring the tax from corporation tax to the other tax. The monies they make are fixed.

The Tax system has never been implemented properly since independence.
Excessive VAT on imports, fuel and practically all consumer goods, including water and electricity only makes living harder for Ghanaians.
Tax on import goods should never be over 10%. VAT on restaurants and consumer goods should never be over 12%. The government should rather create a business friendly environment to attract more small and medium businesses and more employment. The millions of employees, the better source for any government to create lofty Tax zone.
Further, the government should create zones to Tax home owners property Taxes in addition to Taxes on luxury cars and motor vehicles.
My idea would Tax any residential building that is valued over $200,000.00. Commercial buildings over $100,000.00 may attract a different zone and Tax. This does not mean the government should put all their income stiffed burden on home owners. This is done reasonable throughout most developed countries.
This approach is complicated. And the government either has no idea how to create and collect such Taxes effectively. Property Tax in Ghana is a joke. That proves my point as to why Ghana governments shy away from creating a safe property Tax zones that affects the rich; those who can afford to pay a little more; and release economical burden on the general low income. I wait to see which government could work toward this proven Tax system would have my backing.

Ama,you guys need to read the story again, the airlines are not taking this money away, they are adding these fees to the ticket you and I buy, which means if the ticket costs $10.00 the airline will add $10.00 which will go to civil aviation,it is you who is going to pay the money not the airlines but it can affect the airlines because it may discourage people from travelling to that airport,it is a rip off,no need for that fee.
Instead of encouraging people to travel to the country we keep discouraging them with all these outrageous fees which always end up in some individuals' pockets, shame on us.

This man wants to tax his way out of office. Despite all the billions he has stolen, he is still not satisfied. Mahama is the most corrupt president Ghana has ever had.

Guess where I will be spending my next holidays!

After paying the tax, passengers still stand the risk of loosing their valuables as the baggage handlers find ways to open their bags and steal 'things'. This is very shameful and must be addressed by the authorities..

But the gov't and people of Ghana see 'Aburokyire' folks as rich and must be extorted.
A person travelling to Ghana pay visa fees of $60 -$100 before buying ticket. Now airlines are going to pass on the cost of any fees onto the ticket buyer. The long term effect is that tourism will suffer. If the average tourist spends $2,000 in Ghana (made up number), which would a sane gov't prefer? Spending in the country or killer taxes? We should rather be promoting tourism and encouraging more people to visit Ghana rather than discouraging with taxes and fees.
Then you wonder why Ghanaians only come home for parents funerals.

Ghanaian always want to project our budget in dollar terms making life difficult for the citizens . charging almost 130 dollar tax on ticket, what at all is the service at airport to pay such a whopping fee.
