Mining Companies must do ore by spending some of their revenue to develop the societies they operate in. The ratio of revenue to development is unacceptable and if these had been done over the years I am sure the menace of illegal Mining would have been better managed. We expect them to do better and must stop looking up to government for protection.

Most foreign mining companies take social responsibility very seriously and do a lot. They also pay a lot in taxes and royalties to the government who then should invest some of that money directly back into the mining communities. These mining companies also have to abide by EPA rules. They had to pay money for their concession.
Illegal miners provide NONE of this. They wreck the environment. Don't pay any income/VAT taxes or royalties to the government.
Do you think Ghana would be better off with no foreign investment in the mining sector?
