Black man mentality. Foreigners come and dig our gold and give us 5% to the nation. They lay our people off work and forever we remain in poverty. I am from Obuasi, if gold is pick on the ground and you want to sell it openly you will be arrested but when foreigners take it away they are free to take it. The goverment can not even negotiate to get 50% from the foreigners to build our country and economy. Please allow Ghanaians to dig the gold to change their lives. Why should we live in poverty forever and foreigner takes away everything to build their country? We should be fare to both Ghanaians and foreigners 50% each to both parties.

Please check your figures well, operational costs is even more than 50%. Ghana like any other country needs foreigners to grow. The world must live in harmony.

John Agyekum Kofi Diawuo Kufour is the typical blackman you are referring to. Ashanti Goldfields Ltd was a burgeoning and highly respected Ghanaian company all over the world. It traded in New York and London Exchanges - the first African company to earn that accolade.
Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. had been in existence for over 100 years until Kofi Diawuo Kufour came to be president of Ghana. During Nkrumah's government, Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. almost folded up due to falling gold prices in the market, but NKrumah saved the company by making internal arrangements and provided cash for the company to survive.
During NLC time in 1968, Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. once again was on a brink of collapse, but General Ankrah and his men combed the world to look for investors and kept the company alive. Fast forward to 1984. Ashanti Goldfields was close to folding up but Rawlings and his PNDC won't let that happen. They went to the IMF and borrowed $114 million dollars to inject into the company. JJ Rawlings and his government did more; they changed the whole management structure, and for the first time made a Ghanaian, Sam Jona, President of the company.
All these governments, from Nkrumah to JJ Rawlings, did everything in their power to save Ashanti Goldfields Lt., because it was an authentic Ghanaian company - it provided employment for our people and was the highest foreign exchange earner for our country.
Then JA Kufuor showed up in 2000, and by 2003 he has sold Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. to Anglogold - a British company domiciled in South Africa. JA Kufuor sold a company that was estimated at $3.5 billion (by Merrill Lynch) for a mere $1.4 billion and went on to have a lavish dinner party at Buckingham Palace with the Queen. Yes, some would say Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. was in trouble when JA Kufuor sold it - it was involved in hedging activities that went bad. My answer is; Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. was in trouble during Nkrumah's time, Gen. Ankrah's time, and JJ Rawlings' time. What prevented these leaders from Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. during their time the company was in trouble.
A lot of Ghanaians would cry if they knew what JA Kufuor gave Anglogold in the sale agreement. Apart from the 10 years tax holiday JA Kufuor gave to Anglogold, he also leased the rich Obuasi mines and other mines in the country to Anglogold for 55 years. Yes, you heard me, 55 years! By the end of 55 years, you and most people in the country would be dead and gone, and there will be no gold for our children.
JA Kufuor is your typical blackman, very selfish, deadly, and duplicitous to say the least. Today this nation wrecker and a crook walks around on high moral grounds, pontificating the ills of the Ghanaian society. This thief belongs in Nsawam, and I will make sure that he rots in Nsawam if I am successful in wrestling power from these crooks in future.

I do not know who you are, but if your views on this subject is predicated on partisan politics, then you are complicit in corruption in the country. It is time to take our country back from the thieves and nation wreckers. JA Kufour will definitely be held accountable to the sale of Ashanti Goldfields Ltd., the Ghana Telecom deal, and Ghana Airways. So will JJ Rawlings who sold over 350 state-owned interprises for peanuts to mainly foreigners and his cronies, and left the Consolidated Account empty after the 2000 election. All these thieves will face the wrath of the country one day.
You can bury your head in the sand like an ostrich and say I have issues.

If today your Obuasi indigenes working elsewhere in Ghana and abroad are told to quit their jobs for indigenes to take over, how would you feel? Very sad my brother.

Let the Asantes fight for their rights; after all it their own land that is being degraded. The Gas reverted the Ohene Gyan stadium to Accra sports stadium for the mere fact that Ohene Gyan is not a Ga. And this sit down well with you Akan name stealing morons out there. Free monies of the the taxpayer are being given to some stupid greedy bastards from the Northerners in the name of SADA and these Trokosi morons - like Andy K and kojo T - don't see anything wrong with that. Why is is it that when it is about Asantes you idiots come here, jumping and farting like the proverbial Ofui?

You're NOT going to get nearly 100% of employees from Obuasi. Some of the management and specialists Randgold will certainly bring in from S. Africa, Canada, Australia, other mines in Ghana, wherever. Obuasi simply doesn't have all the high-level skills; they've moved on to other jobs in other mines in other countries.
Do you wish to prevent Randgold & Anglo from redeveloping the mine so that there are NO jobs for ANYONE? Doesn't seem very bright to me...
And those who think the big mining companies only pay 5% to the government do not know what they are talking about. Many mining companies these days are LOSING money. Some make small profits, but still pay well more than 50% of the gold value to Ghana taxes, royalties, salaries, electricity and supplies purchased in Ghana. It's not just a few labourers from Obuasi who will benefit from a re-opening of the Obuasi mine!
