It's not over yet Mr. Mahama. We are still waiting for the Supreme Court to interpret Article 70(2) of the constitution. We believe that the "Maradona" action taken by Mr. Mahama did not reflect the letter and spirit of the above mentioned article. But this has nothing to do with whether the lady appointed is qualified, fit to be the chairperson or not. In fact, that is a separate matter altogether.
Mr. Mahama should've waited for the Supreme Court ruling on the matter before appointing the lady, and there was no need for him to rush in order to jump the gun. We believe that he panicked because there is a real possibility that the SC would decide against their narrow and dictatorial interpretation of the constitution that allows the president to appoint an EC boss including its members contrary to fair play and common sense. Those who argue against his powers to do so substantively have valid and concrete points. One of them is that since the president is also a political player, he should not be allowed to substantively appoint the referee, and we don't believe the constitution allows such a thing.
No matter the type of cut and paste constitution we may have, we don't believe the framers intended to give undue advantage to one political player over all the others. Even though we know that it was written under the P/NDC military dictatorship that wanted to control every institution to its advantage, and twisted the neck of Article 70(2) to appoint the first EC chairman in order to perpetuate their rule, it does not mean that it was the right thing to do, and we should not allow the undemocratic process to continue indefinitely in our democratic dispensation.

Having been used to register people to vote in the 2012 elections is an indication that there are people on the voters register who are not citizens of Ghana. Therefore, any credible list of voters should not include such people so Madam EC Chair, please compile the voters register again. We need a fresh start.
