Dr. Sarpong, your lamentation over your inability to cope with these acts of gross disregard for the laws and regulations of Ghana in the mining industry, is an admission of your gross inefficiency. You seem to know all the modus operandi of all those illegal small-scale miners including Chinese nationals who, you said, are using sophisticated methods, including explosives and mercury to extract gold. And for these heinous crimes you only sit in your office and issue terse, impotent warnings? Lord, have mercy!!!
Against the sins of the ineffective action of your toothless bull-dog barking, your urging "the stakeholders to work together to inject sanity into small-scale mining" seems to undermine all that you have said in your so-called "dibi na mindibi" warning, and it seriously betrays how weak you have portrayed yourself as the Regional Minister for the Ashanti Region.

As far as our laws and regulations are ineffective and government fail to prosecute his appointee who break the laws going free without any punishment for deterrance,As far as the status quo remain eradication of illegal miners is a gimmick and hoax as those illegal miners get support from politicians, chiefs and landowners and government fail to show respect to the environment and eco system and did not realise the last tree dies the last man dies. Why should government allow criminal to destroy our water bodies and forest and at the same time poison usand sit idle doing nothing about it?

Bauxite (from the Western Region) --- 333,458 mt
Manganese (from the Western Region) --- 596,572 mt
(Source mining policy of Ghana)
Value today:
Gold --- $1400 per oz
Diamond --- from $1500 to $150,000 per carat (Market price)
Bauxite --- $150 per mt
Manganese --- $450 per tonne
Akyem districts make up more than half of the population of the Eastern Region.
Even though today diamond production from Akyem has stopped temporarily Akyem districts must be given their fair share of projects. Discrimination against Akyems districts has been going on for at least the last forty years. A visit to the Akyem districts would indicate the poor state of districts: bad roads, poor infrastructure. The state of the districts is not reflective of the revenue they have contributed over the last 100 years.
