Why should we allow our critical national infrastructure to be developed by a foreign enterprise.
Since its a public project why didn't it go to competitive public tender?
Secondly why take the legislative mandate away from GPHA who by Ghana's Law and also by recently passed Local Content Law LI2204 , been given authority to carry out any such projects?
And what is that glout on our national local content come in ?
Listen there are equally competent Ghanaians investors, interested in the development of our limited opportunities, we must stop this behaviour of giving away all our opportunities to the IOC's. What is wrong with us mother Ghana?
How can we give our Oil Services Port to a foreign private firm to develop?
Its too sensitive a revenue generating sector , security risk area and capacity building sector to allow an IOC to manage .
See our Oil Field development went to a novice oil firm, now one that will be our Oil Service Port too we are giving it away on a plate?
I tell you this , majority of the jobs in the Oil sector are created via the Service sector , so for us as a Ghana to have more increased participation in the Petroleum sector , will then mean we need to have some greater control within key areas which are not super techno-heavy capital engineered required sectors and the Fabrication yards, the Warehouses, the Piping yards, the Service ports, the barges , the supply services vessels are all hinged on the port facility and the revenues and jobs associated are huge and the have a larger longer terms economics transformational effects .
Lets be very very careful , don't give it out please to a foreign private firm, they will milk us dry and expats will eat large whilst our pple still be poorer.
I hate to say this but we've allowed too much this so called attracting foreign investments to go too far - yes we can set aside some sectors for them, but not all the strategic industries for goodness sake. Our economy believe it or not is in the hands of war-torn Lebo n Indians etc,
Even our rice and the rest of our foods are now foreign controlled with a huge import bill and hence BOP deficit.
Well its only frustrating when you objectively project into the next 50 years what our Ghana will be like.

If the development of the port project by Lonrho is in breach of the country's laws and a violable offense, why is Cabinet going ahead to table it before Parliament for consideration in the first place? Does Parliament not realize that, it violates the laws in the first place? The festering spectacle of lawlessness and impunity characteristic trademarks of the NDC gov't, does not bode well for the country, and is clearly, some of the reasons why the country is in the abyss.

i do not believe this project is in violation of the law, if it was why would the NDC govt present something to parliament that they would be caught out.

Why allow Lonhro to build a free port at Atuabo? What do we as a country gain if we are not going to collect duty on imports and exports passing through this proposed port?
Lonhro has raped our country for far too long, operating Obuasi, the richest gold mine in the world, since colonial times and paying little by way of tax. Why do we want to hand over even more of our national wealth to these blood-suckers?
We call upon gov't to think again and help GPHA to build and operate this new port, so that we retain the profits accruing. This is called local content.
