The journalist makes it sound like President Obama looked specifically at his case and released him. The fact is that President Obama has taken on a de-congestion exercise in the prisons. He gave direction to the Justice Department to release, en masse, thousands of so-called 'non-violent' inmates who have long sentences and have served at least 9 years, so space in jails can be freed up. It's been controversial. This person must have been considered non-violent and therefore, his long sentence terminated.

The author of the article, which also appeared in another publication created the false impression that President Obama relented to personal appeals and ordered the release of Musa Jack Ngonadi. This couldn't be further from the truth. Musa as among several others who were pardoned by the President, because they were sentenced to jail terms that were inconsistent with the nature of crimes they committed. Seconlyd, the president ordered the release of non-violent drug offenders from federal prisons as part of his prison decongestion policy. As a non-immigrant offender, Musa was promptly handed over to the US immigration authorities who then deported him to Nigeria.
