They were also betrayed by the Yoruba. I don't understand why some politicians alienate some ethnic groups when it comes to representation in government and positions. Yes it happened in Eritrea and Sudan. We talk about uniting all Africans but we continue to fight for seperation. Just imagine what happened in Mali quite recently. In Mauritania, the light skinned Arabs do not respect the Blacks and treat them as slaves. I was shocked to learn that there is slavery and slave trade going on in some parts of Mauritania.
I remember those days of the Nigeria-Biafra war. It was just terribly bad and many innocent civilians suffered and many were killed. That explains why there is an uneasy relations between the Igbos, Yourubas and Hausas. When some political and immatured talk of war in Ghana if elections don't go their way, and are followed by unemployed youth, I feel sad for Ghana because they do not know what they are crying for.
Prince, do you remember the song that was composed for the Igbos after the civil war? It went thus: ODJUKU, ODJUKU, RAN BECAUSE GENERAL GOWON IS COMING...

Igbos are criminals and treacherous people and that's why they are being vilified and persecuted wherever an Igbo is resident. Nigerians of the Yoruba and Hausa extractions have lived in Ghana for centuries and managed to integrate seamlessly with Ghanaian population of all tribes, criminality was never part of their stock until the Igbo tribe of South Eastern Biafran enclave started the mass migration into Ghana and seem to export their trademark criminal nature into Ghana. Ghanaians should identify the Igbos for their criminal nature and should stop lumping all Nigerians living in Ghana together as criminals.

What would you do if you are consistently denied basic human and civil rights because of your tribe/ethnicity and/or religion? I thought African leaders will wise up and learn from the causes and lessons of the regional conflicts but instead the brain dead politicians keep walking the same paths that lead to the conflicts already witnessed. Peace must be pursued with all the energy of soul and once found maintained through dialogue, openness and equality. There has to be a level playing field of equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunities for all otherwise we'll never see the end of these conflicts. In Ghana those who love then candidate John Dramani Mahama in 2012 did not see anything wrong with the Presidential Candidate soliciting for the votes of Northerners to be president of the entire nation because according to him he's one of them. Shouldn't we be voting for presidents on their personal merits rather than on the basis of regional/tribal affiliation? Does it mean that in spite of competence and qualification for the job certain people can never be president or even get the job they apply for because they come from a minority tribe? Before the civil war in Nigeria many Igbo businessmen were slaughtered in the North which is also notorious for burning Christian Churches without provocation. If people are denied certain rights, privileges and opportunities and all they get is discriminaion, abuse, marginalizationl and contempt why wouldn't they push for their own state even at the peril of their lives?

During the 1950's, both the Ashanti and Northern Kingdoms were seeking to become Federal States and the electorate voted to remain a part of the Gold Coast (Ghana). The calls for an Ashanti State were led by the Chief Linguist of the Asantehene whom was a co-founder of the National Liberation Movement (NLM). The CPP were against the idea of a Ashanti & Northern Federal States which led to violent clashes between supporters of both political parties.
The notorious 'Stormtroopers' of the NLM, carried out violent murders on CPP supporters many of whom lived in the Brong-Ahafo Region. My father was a young man and he describes travelling from Dormaa-Ahenkro to Kumasi as putting your life at risk because of the activities of the notorious 'Stormtroopers'. One of my Father's Uncles was murdered by these 'Stormtroopers' by being set on fire with petrol.
Also, known Politicians of the CPP, were targeted such as the late Krobo Edusei. The son of a Sub-Chief, from the Ampabame Village (Kwabre District), of the Ashanti Region. One of his elder Sisters whom was pregnant at the time was shot dead by a small gang of NLM supporters. Her only crime was that she was that Krobo Edusei was her younger brother. She died leaving several children without a mother and the unborn baby died with her. Even more sad was the fact that she knew her murderer whom was a neighbour living in the Ampabame Village.
Mr Krobo Edusei had to flee his house in the Mbrom area of Kumasi and live in Accra, for 3 years because his own life was at risk
despite two of his other Sisters having children with Grandsons of Asantehene Kofi Karikari & Asantehene Agyemang Prempeh (1).
The family house of Krobo Edusei in Kumasi (Mbrom), still remains today. In the lounge area of this 2 storey Mansion sits a lovely picture of Asantehene Agyemang (11), standing alongside Mr Krobo Edusei at a function both of them dressed in splendid Kente Cloth. They were obviously close friends and often made private visits to each other during the evenings.
After the death of Asantehene Agyemang Prempeh (11), his successor (Opuku Ware), and Mr Krobo Edusei also enjoyed a close friendship.
Mr Victor Owusu and Mr Krobo Edusei despite being on opposite sides of the political divide also enjoyed a close friendship. The family house of Mr Victor Owusu is also located in Mbrom and is just a few yards away from the house of Krobo Edusei. Next door to the house of Mr Krobo Edusei lives the Mother of Alan 'Cash' and the Ashanti Royal Family own several properties in the area of Mbrom.
Politicians, Chiefs and other figures of authority can often make public statements and manipulate the minds of the public for their own selfish agenda's. However, away from the gaze of the public sworn political enemies are often friends. For example, Mr Krobo Edusei and Mr Victor Owusu.
Civil War is a horrible thing and those who live through the violence such as my Parents are reluctant to talk about the horrors or relive the memories. If the Ashanti Region wanted to form a Federal State it could do so. The Ashanti Kingdom was previously a fully functioning well run National State for many years before it was colonised in 1896. The Ashanti Kingdom had its own Royal Family (King, Queen Mother etc), National Flag, Administrative System of Government etc. However, since voting in a Referendum for Ashanti Kingdom to remain as part of the Gold Coast (Ghana), or to become a Federal State there has not been any popular support to push for the Ashanti Kingdom to become a Federal State. Elderly people whom grew up in the Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo and Northern Regions during the 1950's, know that such talk is dangerous and costs innocent lives.
A few months ago the current Asantehene & President Mahama were shown dancing together in his Royal Palace. Is that the behaviour of a King who wants to form his own Federal State?

Hear what Lord Lugard, the British colonialist who amalgamated Northern and Southern Nigeria. In his "Dual Mandate" of 1926, he wrote this about Nigerians:
"In character and temperament, the typical African of this race type is a happy, thriftless excitable person...lacking in self control, discipline and foresight, naturally courageous....and polite, full of personal vanity with little sense of veracity...loving weapon as an oriental loves jewelry...his mind is far nearer to animal world than of European or Asiatic...He lacks the power of organization, is conspicuously deficient in management and control alike of men or business. He loves the display of power but fails to realize its responsibility ...he will work hard than most races... the two traits which have impressed me as most characteristic of the African nature are his lack of apprehension and his lack of ability to visualize the future..." -Lord Frederick John Dealty Lugard (The Dual Mandate, 1926, p.70)

Was he wrong or right? In my opinion he was absolutely right. Look at what is happening in oil rich Ghana now ? The region and district of the president himself is one of the deprived and poorest but he could invest outside for the benefit of the countries he has invested while his people are suffering and the youth are unemployed. If really this race minds are not far near to animals how on earth could the leaders steal the whole funds of the state and share among themselves while the people are in a hopelessness state? If not lack of ability to visual the future how on earth can John mahama use so much money to construct circle when there are no chalks in the classrooms, when the NHIS has collapsed, when teacher and nurses trainee allowances are cancelled, when money for power have been shared among party gurus and leaving the whole country in darkness to the collapse of industries. If this race do not love the display of power but not the responsibilty that comes with it how come anytime ndc is in power they form armed groups to intimidate others during elections? How come they can't use the power to better the lives of the people but rather to intimidate and the practice of the survival of the fitters? John Lugard said this in 1926 but it still exist in this race in 2015 and beyond because our minds are not far from animals. He was right then and now.All funds for development have gone into weapons buying for elections and what do you think of people with such mentality ? They have know idea of governance but want to stay on at all cost, they don't care about the plight of the people , all they care are themselves but feel comfortable when they visit America, Europe and the Asia are we normal? I support any group in Ghana that will secede in this injustices being done to the people by a group of people.

ALL NIGERIA PEOPLE SHOULD LEAVE GHANA!
Yes my brother, you're right. Nigeria is really doomed They should allow BIAFRA go.
Thank you my brother. I am a Nigerian and I agree with you 100%
Don't let Igbo people destabilize your peaceful country.
Correction
All Igbos should live Ghana.
What the hell are they doing in Ghana? Igbo Imagbuikutilagbo should go back home and tell his people from Nigerian TV. They should not bring their stigma of war into this country.
I guessed Buhari supposed to be lecturing Mahama on how to govern. We don't need additional refugees here for we have our challenges already.
But was it not Buhari who sent Ghanians parking in the 'Ghana Must Go 'saga? So what do you want Mahatma to learn from the Fulani religious and ethnic bigot,Buhari?
