The case for a new register has still not mentioned any strategy or process to prevent the re-registration of people perceived to be MINORS or FOREIGNERS. The EC has asked political parties to submit their findings and suggestions. Let us trust the parties to be true to what they see to be wrong or right with the current or future new register. If compiling a new register will not cure the causes of the so called 'bloated register' then the calls will not be worth considering since people who live across the borders of Ghana and have Ghanaian nationalities will want to register again. I live in the UK and as a Commonwealth national I have my name in the UK voter register as well as the Ghana register. Will I be prevented from re-registration because of that? Let us answer serious questions and not be over simplistic.

I don't know if the critics for a new VR(voter register) understand the power of DUAL CITIZENSHIP, and the definition of who is Ghanaian.
EC cannot stop someone whose father is Ivorian and the mother is from GH. As far as the person's name is in both VR of Ghana and Ivory Coast; that individual can crisscross and vote in any election.
Compiling a new register will not cure the causes of the so called 'bloated register'.
The people at the borders of Ghana have Ghanaian relatives and will want to register again.
What I will suggest is to minimize double voting, and stop minors.

Very sad n laughable, by what means do u come to the conclusion that the register is not credible?, was it credible when npp won the election? Did the npp knew that it was not credible bt yet went into that election?, had the npp won the last election will the register would have been credible?,. From all indication has this writer done a through analysis of the current register? Or basing his arguments on what npp put out there. Even in Canada u are failure if that is your line of reasoning.

The NPP was the same party that was advocating, way back in 2007, for voting rights for Ghanaians living in the diasporas. Can you imagine if those same NPP hipocrites were to be living in Ghanaian towns near the borders with Togo and the Ivory Coast and doing business in towns right across the border in Togo or Cote d'Ivoire? Those same NPP sympathizers would exercise their voting rights in Ghana today and resume work in their shops in Togo or Ivory Coast the next day. Outspoken NPP sympathisers I knew then in North America were proclaiming that we all living abroad must vote. Now, even though that did not materialize, if NPP sympathizers in North America were to be on the voters register in Ghana, and if they were to be visiting in Ghana on Election Day, they surely would vote. Furthermore, if North America were to be just a day's driving journey from Ghana, I bet you that those NPP sympathizers would drive the hundred miles to vote. Ladies & Gentlemen, the Ghanaians who are market women or who operate passenger vehicles from Lome to Accra, or who are fishermen or shop/store owners in Lome are just a stone-throw from the Ghana-Togo border. If those people actually reside in Lome itself or Denu, Aflao, Dzodze, Akatsi, Dabala or even Sogakope/Tefle/Sokpoe/Vume (which are only 45 minutes from Lome), even if they commute from their residences at Ada or Ada-Junction to Lome everyday to operate their trades, what on earth is wrong with those same Ghanaians staying home in Ghaqna on voting day to vote?
I have always thought that Bawumia is an intelligent economist until this issue came up. I now know that he is not analytical at all one bit. Listen, leave the Voter Register alone; if the NPP comes into power and they want to spend all the money in the national coffers (which is one thing they are good at - diverting national funds for boondoggling) to re-create a new Register, so be it. For now, it is too close to election day and there is too much work involved, and the NPP is simply crying wolf just as they did in their Supreme Court appeal the last time around in 2013.
What the NPP has refused to believe, and for which it will remain in denial forever is that, the name NPP is concretely associated with Asante braggartism and claim that they alone would forever dominate Ghana. Times have changed and the rest of Ghana is saying that, "NO, THAT WILL NEVER, EVER HAPPEN IN GHANA AGAIN. NOT TODAY, AND NOT TOMORROW". So, for the NPP to ever rule in Ghana again, they have to change that name from NPP to another name, and start anew with a new all-inclusive, all-Ghanaian brand that Ghanaians can all identify with - just as the NDC and the other parties have done. As it is now, even the CPP stands a better chance to rule in Ghana than the NPP.
