Is it worth celebrating? What are we celebrating anyway? our failures? As far as I know every reasonable individual celebrates achievements, but not failures! At a time when our people are sleeping in darkness coupled with unemployment some people deem it worth a celebration. Are we not ashamed of our children not having electricity to study, businessess closing down laying off workers. Stealing of the national cake by our politicians, and top government officials? Those calling for this celebration must be ashamed of themselves. I urge all Ghanaians to boycott this March 6 celebration of our shameful failure.

Ooopps! By the way who is pocketing the gate fee of $75.00 per person? Will all such monies derived find its way back home for a good cause even if its so intended ?
Put a hungry cat in charge of a fried fish and you will live to regret.
I pause for a reply.

I do not think you are right. Though in challenge seasons yet we have to count our past blessings and thank God. The 6th March celebration will surely come on.

Thank God we have Barnor, Akyen and some few others who know that Ghana has nothing to celebrate. What has Ghana got to its name that calls for celebration? Is it the sleeping in darkness? A situation which is axiomatically a cascade of destruction. Or the mastery of corruption that has marooned most Ghanaians in abject poverty?
A few years back, Ghana spent 50million dollar on a birthday (the so call Ghana at 50). While they had gathered at the Independence Sqaure making noise, BBC was showing to the world a woman at Temale fetching from a gutter to take home and drink. What a heart-rending issue! Is that what we are celebrating? please, let us use our time to find answers and solutions to the convoluted problems that have confronted us so that blackmen can earn a little respect from our fellow beings.

There is a failure to think outside of the box here. Why not set up something at a resort outside of NYC. People can spend overnight, buy their own drinks and food. Have some local Ghanaian artist perform. Having such a function in the Bronx is below standard. Are we really that poor? If this is the case, just leave this to the private sector and forget it. The Ghana consulate can just have a select private function and invite other delegations. That is all that we need.

Surly, a little modesty on the part of our leaders, both ministers and senior civil servants will go a long way to help. No wonder the country is descending into a den of thievery.

There is no reason Yorkers should celebrate Ghana's so-called independence. The only thing we have to show for the independence is that Ghana gained self rule. But what happened? We messed up to the extent that most of us have voluntarily moved outside to live under foreign rule. So what independence are we celebrating?
