"The Ghana brand is visible expecially, on high school and college campuses where demand for skillful Ghanaian players has soared since Brazil 2014 galvanizing coaches into a desperate search for that delicacy called a Ghana midfielder or attacker, to add flavor to their team.
Thus, if you are identified as a Ghanaian, you are likely to get a broad smile followed by high-fives from your soccer-loving peers to certify your status as a potential game changer just arrived on campus. Indeed, every Ghanaian, is assumed to be a God-sent soccer jewel thanks to good advert of Ghana soccer at the Mundial by the Black Stars, despite the 1-2 loss to the Americans".

It is all about confidence. In the USA, there is a system in place to give the youth who are interested, exposure to top notch international competition. Pre teens and teens actually travel to Europe and Latin America to play in youth tournaments. This develops a certain level of confidence that is critical when you are on the international stage and play as the underdog.

When America beat Ghana during this last summer's World Cup tournament, it wasn't because they were really superior to Ghana---even if FIFA had rated the Americans higher than Ghana. That was why Ghana's loss to America still pains me dearly. I'm sure if the GFA had behaved well and done its homework properly and efficiently, and hadn't allowed the money issue to rear its ugly head among the Stars in Brazil, and if the Stars' coach Kwasi Appiah and his Technical Team had done their work properly by fielding the right players at the right time, especially quickly making the right substitues in the second half of the match, there was no way the Stars would have lost thdir opening match to the Americans. Why didn't they introduce Michael Essien and Prince Boateng at the beginning of the second hlaf, or even earlier? Interestingly, the Stars' coach himself attributed their loss to the Stars' lack of concentration. Of course, what did the GFA, the coach and the Technical Team expect when they allowed the money issue to crop up in Brazil?
That the Americans weren't really better than the Black Stars could be seen in the latter's highly rated 2-2 draw against Germany. Even in that match I believe the Stars were superior, and had not players like Jordan Ayew not been so selfish and so failed to release the ball to his colleagues like Asamoah Gyan who was in a position to score, coupled with unfair refereering against the Stars, they would have beaten Germany.
So, while I'm not against but rather support Kobby Osei Wusu's call on 'Ghana's soccer authorities to cast the talent-hunting net wide to include Ghanaians based in America'. the fact still remains that American tootball is still sub-standard, even though they're improving, and therefore priority must be given to Ghanaian players in Europe over their American based counterparts.

Firstly, get over it - at the end of the day, the USMNT kicked our national team's butt and won. Your so called "fine fine" earned you 0 points! Some of our best players play in European leagues that don't register on the World soccer map, so don't use your bigoted view of the MLS to denigrate players with Ghanaian heritage who are based in the US. Ability, not, location, should determine call ups into the various national teams. Do you seriously believe Freddy Adu, at the height of his career would not have made it in any of the Ghanaian national teams? At least you can vouch for the age of those based in America. America should have at least taught you not to be prejudiced.

Kwame Newman, I think you and most Ghanaians will always tickle yourself and laugh, may be you don't know what you are talking about. You and most Ghanaians are depending on past glory of the Ghana Black Stars and the the genesis of American soccer. but I want you guys to know that American league has come very far and way better and professional than Ghana. Why do we always depend on our foreign players instead of local players but America have and depends on their local players.Even most of the teams our so called professional players in Black Stars play and even most of them are just bench warmers can not be compared to American Clubs, please do not continue to look at America soccer as it was in may be 25 years ago.Look at your local league, everything about it is poor and you are bragging comparing it to American league, 'apee too'. Even in Africa Ghana league is nothing to write or talk about.
