Mr Minister this is just the tip of the iceberg. It is rotten to the core. They run it like a family business. The earlier it is divested the better for the entire energy sector.

That culture where the Ghanaian has been conditioned to shy away from punching and punching very hard above his/her weight needs to be reversed.
There is a general tendency for people and institutions not to go after the powerful and connected in society all across the world, at the expense of the guy at the lower rung of the ladder, but in Ghana it is legendary.
MTN says it owes 35 million cedis, the US embassy says it's owing ECG, and I am damn sure there are a huge number of other companies and organizations owing as well, but we see somebody with a light bulb in Krobo Odumase in a kiosk being charged fantastic amounts, with the added insult of being disconnected if he doesn't pay 4000 cedis. What happened to the company in Tema owing millions and millions of cedis to ECG?
This sort of situation was the same thing we saw with the Blankson-led GRA, where Ibrahim Mahama had turned Ghana's port's into a private free port for his company by not paying a dime for equipment imported into the country, but the Kayayei with a baby on her back, carrying stuff on her head that should be carried by a Tipper truck, is chased by AMA to pay taxes every single day, in this country.
According to data, the bulk of ECG's debt is institutional and corporate ie institutions, industries, companies etc, etc. It is not the guy operating the kiosk, it is not that residence, and until some good steps are taken in terms of collecting these debts, together with some of the more technical interventions such as this district boundary metering, and importantly, applying IT solutions to the operation and management of the whole value chain, ECG would be in serious problems. There should be a very strong balance at ECG that makes sense of the existence of that institution.

If this is the state of ECG,the new gov't's renegotiation of 51% shareholding should be scraped and ECG privatised. That is the logical thing to do to stop the rot.

I have no opinion regarding sale or otherwise of ECG. But I will like to share my frustrations with others. Within the past nine years, my house meter has been changed four times. The first one was still functioning well, when some men from the ECG came over and asked to inspect my house. I was livid but gave in to their demands. They then told me the meter will have to be replaced. I told them I find it strange since it was still working. We did not agree but I later found out why they left my house without complaining too much because I refused a government employee to have his way. When I next went out to purchase units for the meter, I was told the meter had been blocked. And that, I should report to another office to effect that required change. The problems I went through to finally have the meter installed in my house would better to be left untold. If four meters will be changed within nine years for one house. How many meters will have to be bought and replaced in the millions of houses ECG provide service. And at what cost? Is it any wonder with such a performance that we pay so much for energy in Ghana? Was it a deliberate strategy to purchase inferior meters into the country. So as to enable some greedy officials to have their cuts at regular intervals? It is insentive and wicked for the political supervisors to allow such cheating to go on, to make the citizenry suffer a double whammy. Inefficient service at high costs.

That is making sweeping statements on political platforms does not help the citizenry in the long run. Now reality has caught up with the politician. The MIDA funding has a timeframe and if it is not used up within the stipulated time frame it will be withdrawn. If this happens who loses = Ghana. I will suffer, you will suffer and the rot will continue forever. And if we are not careful DUMSOR will come back with a "big bang" and that will be forever. I pray for my country Ghana.
