This will be detrimental to those of us who live further south of the Volta, towards the estuary. The whole ecosystem will be destroyed. Please dont do it

I presume, the water used at Akosombo is again used at Kpong, both for generation of power from the same river source. This is not a complicate issue because of the river flow pattern. But when a system is to redirect used wa ...

Bra Teye, In the rainy season alone, excess water is runoff and wasted to save the dam from collapsing. You do not need to worry about not getting enough water downstream, because all that will be taken care of by the use of ...

    Great point!

Further, assuming the point being about recycling as much of the water that goes into the sea?

Thank you Anokye. If one goes back to the comments on this subject, I have said this several times, but no one seems to take notice. I hope someone is listening this time around. Just collect the so-called used water, put it ...

I am amazed people are taking this guy seriously.

Many people over the years have confused a practicable Pumped Storage system with with a Perpetual Motion Machine.

  • Kofi 7 years ago

Absolute lunacy. This guy does not know anything about engineering. You will need more power than akosombo produces to recycle the water coming through the turbines. It is not practicable and it isn't done anywhere on earth.

  • JOS P 7 years ago

It can be done but you need the right topography for that effort to make it power efficient. We have it here in the US.

  • David Ashongman estate 7 years ago

    Good idea long overdue.

The Akosombo can be re-channeled from upstream back into the downstream to control the flow and keep the levels needed at a contoled rate.

  • josh 7 years ago

    Ludicrous idea.

  • KAS 7 years ago

The Akosombo downstream water goes to power the turbines at Kpong(Akuse) hydro, so if the water exiting Akosombo turbines is to be recycled, it means there wouldn't be enough water to run the Kpong hydro plant.....Fine, other ...

It is not possible to recycle water from the Akosombo Dam. This is because, the electricity needed to pump water back into the dam would in practice exceed the electricity being generated by the dam. Moreover, the volume of w ...
