If the guy applied for a GHS600,000 mortgage loan and was duly approved by the underwriting team, I don't see the criminality in this. Again, the fact the he's retiring in 3 years time does not make him ineligible for the loan. The key factor is his ability to repay the loan within the repayment period. Will he earn enough income after his retirement to be able to make the payments? I guess, the underwriting team evaluated all these factors before recommending to management to approve the loan. Perhaps, the other side of the political argument is, are all employees given similar opportunities to apply for housing loans, or it's only the top officers who use their position to influence management to approve such loans? That will be case of unfair and discriminatory lending practice by management; and could suffer for that.
