Oh! Ghana, so we don't have visionary leaders in this government. Most countries are turning to green energy and those having coal power plants knows the negative environmental impact and are stopping the use of coal. Now we are going back for it. Is that sensible? Even South Africa are converting all their airports to use solar energy.

How could any one want a coal plant!! Such an obsolete technology that has harmful impact on humans and indeed the entire environment? , Unbelievable. For a fraction of the cost of of sending carcinogens and other industrial gases into Central Region, Eastern Region, Ashanti Region, Greater Accra, Region, and indeed the rest of Ghana, we could have invested in solar energy. Who is listening? Even China is itself shifting away from coal. Soon Ghana would be receiving recycled coal plants from China, and generations of Ghanaians (who would be subject to respiratory problems, cancer, etc) would be paying and paying and paying.

I always feel sorry for Ghana these days. We live in the tropics with abundance of sunshine 365 days in the year with a large sparse of sea guaranteeing us some sort of wind. Who is thinking strategically in Ghana? Why import billions of dollars of coal and pollute the air for energy when we can have cheaper and better options? I am really sad.

They are very inefficient and expensive. The technology is not really up there yet. Why do you think major solar companies are struggling, many going bankrupt. Many of those still around are heavily subsidized by governments. In the near future, yes, renewable is the way to go, but for industrial purposes, it's not ready. Why do you think the advanced nations are so dependent on nuclear power...you think sunshine in US or Europe is not enough? This thing is expensive and takes do much real estate space. They would definitely get better with advances in technology, but for now its application should be for domestic and very light industry. Don't get me wrong, it going to be the best in years to come. Not now. You would be throwing money any...ie for industry, not light domestic use
