...my dear brother. NEVER IN GHANA. By the way is coal a clean energy source? Several countries including South Africa have got trapped by coal as a source of energy. They are, in fact, making frantic efforts to run away from it, countrymen and women, in much the same way as nuclear is now being abandoned. EVEN IF THIS CHEAP SOURCE COMES, IT IS NOT LIKELY VRA WILL REDUCE ELECTRICITY TARIFFS.

At the time when Developed are closing down their coal factories, Developing countries including Ghana are advocating for coal plants. The negative environmental impact of coal power plants fast outweigh the economic impact. The EPA should go ask UK, USA and even China what coal has done to their environment. The constant smog from coal power plants in Peking is having devastating health effect on inocent people due to hazardous and toxic compounds. Why then are those affected countries advocating for CLEANER energy production ? Remember, Ghana is going to import their unwanted hazardous raw coal at a price. Why does the country not invest in solar, wind and water energies, which are clean, environmental friendly and renewable and lasting longer than coal energy ? Cheap things always come with inevitable cost.

I am not an advocate of coal power generation. This way of producing power has a negative effect on our environment. Ghana must look into solar technology which has no effect on the environment. The question is how long can we provide coals to feed this power generation. Looking at the number of years trees take to grow, it is not going to be a sustainable development. We have so many technology to harness power, Ghana should look into long and effective way for producing power.

What has climate change got to do with the particulates and other pollutants emitted from the cone towers of coal-fired power plants - which cause repiratory dieseases in communities sited near coal-fired power plants, Bill? Zilch.
And please note that electricity from utility-scale thermal solar power plants in Germany, and Australia, with molten salts storage, now cost 8-9 cents per kilowatt hour - way cheaper than electricity from Ghana's gas-fired thermal power plants.
Ghanaians aren't fools, Bill - despite being lumbered with a ruling elite that mostly enter into bad deals because the crooks amongst them get kickbacks for doing so. This foolishness might not come to pass - because Ghanaians aren't fools. Just you wait and see. As for the climate change deniers, they will wake up to the grim reality facing our one biosphere in the not too distant future, when Mother Nature exacts her revenge on humankind for abusing her so.
The planet Earth will survive, no matter how global climate change impacts it. It is life on earth, and modern life as we know it, that is at risk, Bill.
Close your eyes to that if you so wish. It won't alter what will happen if we don't take the necessary steps needed to limit greenhouse gas omissions, globally, one jot.

A classic example of how our shortsighted vampire-elites constantly shortchange Mother Ghana.
Is Greenpeace Africa not battling South Africa's Eskom, on behalf of communities near South Africa's coal-fired power plants, in which scores of inhabitants are dying from respiratory diseases, as we speak?
And is China not closing down coal-fired power plants for exactly the same reasons?
As sure as day follows night, the people who live near the site where the said proposed coal-fired power plant is to be built, will curse President Mahama's National Democratic Congress (NDC), till their dying days, when they start falling ill and start dying from respiratory diseases.
Why don't our feckless and selfish educated urban elites not focus on community and neighbourhood utility-scale thermal solar power plants with molten salts storage, across Ghana - instead of this monstrous and abominable idea?
WHY ARE OUR LEADERS SO STUPID LIKE THIS…? COAL IS MENACING SOURCE OF ENERGY, BECAUSE WE HAVE TO USE CASH TO BUY IT AND THAT ISNT AN EASY THING IF U ARE BEING LEAD BY CORRUPT LEADERS AS WE HAVE IN GHANA.

Many, many countries have achieved success and good life for their people by using this relatively cheap source of abundant energy. Poor Africa cannot sacrifice itself to save the world. We have hardly contributed anything to the world's pollution.
I am surprised that the government of Ghana has been so sensible and bold.
When we have also achieved only a fraction of the prosperity of the developed world and have become less dependent on them as so called "development partners" we can go solar in a huge way. Right now we can also do with some Cheap Energy!
