It came as no surprise at all to me, I said to myself here comes another foolish decision not backed by research but VAT and NHIS imposed on air fares for imposition sake, oh what a foolish idea. who told us that we can do whatever we can think of? You don't to hold a masters degree to realize that decision was a killer to the airlines. They were supposed to compare the passenger through put from 2012 to June 2015 before taking a decision.

Another minister of state with little understanding of basic economics. The VAT is a simple and fairer way of collecting taxes on goods and services.I totally disagree with her that rich people in Ghana who can afford to fly domestically should be exempted from paying the tax on the fraudulent premise of saving domestic airline industry. Why exempt this industry when they are not even making aircraft parts, building planes or assemble the planes in Ghana? The tax becomes inefficient and a complete chaos as you spend more time and money working through those exemptions as the one being canvassed by the minister. There must be a better way to help the aviation industry if we start making some of the parts in Ghana and dealing. If the humble nurse or the school teacher is paying it,why not the domestic airliner? The tax a ready allows business to claim back business inputs so why the noise?

Who are the rich people in Ghana any way? Do you know who a rich man is? Air travel just reduces the travelling time and facilitates things. (Time is money) A rich man going to Kumasi will rather go in a Range rover or Tuoareg and not on a local airline which maintenance you don't know. This exactly the thinking of idiots and no wonder they have reduced a middle income country into HIPC. Ask the airlines the type of people that take the planes. You will be shocked to hear they are supposed government workers and petty business people and poor talkatives calling themselves richmen. So in the current situation, when you increase vat, indirectly you are just increasing government and small business cost and in the long run you get the same amount you were getting before you increase because the few other people and especially the proper richmen will go by road. Silly and idling minds calling themselves NDC

Ghana has two huge problems when it comes to the economy
1. The ministers are not qualified and have no idea of what a minister is supposed to do. They believe in just talking like mahama, and all the time what they do and say is crap and crap. Most of them either were friends or girl friends to dead he goat; and that is all the qualification.
2. The thinking that increasing taxes will bring more money to the greedy bastards pockets forgetting that money can also be saved through saving. Look at Tekper for example; how many years did it take him to realize that, when your economy is not doing well, you rather pump money into the system, like all intelligent countries do? You pump money, reduce interest rate to encourage saving!!!!. Just see the results when Tekper AT LOON LONG LAST WOKE UP FROM HIS SLUMBER TO PUMP MONEY INTO THE ECONOMY!! The cedi suddenly begin to recover. This is not in O level economics books but at least people listen to BBC news and this is the first thing that is done. You enable the people to save money (liquid asset) Tekper will rather increase tax, businesses collapse, the money coming to government reduce and Tekper will increase tax, workers get dried up etc .etc. You will surely end up in HIPC with Tekpernomics. We are economic ideas bankrupt, dead goat and his criminal gangs steal the little or invest in unproductive and frivolous things. Since mahama came to power they continue to build classrooms and only God knows when the classrooms will finish and we begin to tackle electricity and roads. So this is the crisis in which we are being ruled by empty headeds.

The comments by the Minister ignore the fact that the airlines are operating planes that are not suitable or efficient for the routes that they are traveling. For example is AWA using a plane that is appropriate for the Accra Takoradi route, in order to land there they can only half fill the plane due to the plane requiring a longer runway than is available. Straw were flying BAe146 planes for short haul flights they are not designed to be fuel efficient on. Surely rather than just looking at the tax impositions the ministry and CAA should also be saying to airlines bring in the most appropriate plane to fly these routes and use more efficient engines

Is Gov't really seriously committed to the deafening noise of growing local businesses to create employment? One really wonders. One may very easily think at the time gov't came out with policies that affect the performance and growth of local businesses and entrepises it was high with wine and very sober when considering expatriate businesses. It does suggest that gov't cuts its nose to spite its own face by imposing heavy taxes on local businesses while giving tax holidays to international businesses present in Ghana. Is this the kind of conducive environment for local businesses and so-called level playing field for all businesses? Its so preposterous even to be learning about such a posture of Gov't. It's simply a mark neo-colonialism and aggression towards indigenous businesses, period!
