Releasing $114M to shore up the cedi? This has proved beyond every reasonable doubt how immature this government thinks. This amount will have absolutely ZERO effect in propping up the free-falling cedi in the current world market. We need a massive infusion of cash over $1Billion in order to make a dent on this issue. By coming up with this $114M token cash infusion idea, the government has basically admitted that there is nothing it can do to save the cedi.

BoG seems to sell USD to the banks almost every day shortly after noon. That's what kept the free fall of the Cedi from getting brutal. However, if you study the extra Currency Inflows (Cocoa loan, Euro Bond) this market intervention must total clearly more than 100M USD a month.
To me it seems that we will see the Cedi in total free fall from May to July again. Let's see if they can stop it again in August like last year or if the economy is going to implode by then.
The IMF thing certainly will not make a difference. Can't understand what those people are thinking.

GHANA DOES NOT HAVE A SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRIAL, MICRO- AND MACRO-ECONOMIC BASE TO DEPEND ON TO SHORE UP THE CEDI.
GHANA DOES NOT HAVE A COMMANDING GLOBAL MARKET SHARE IN ANYTHING, PRODUCTS OR SERVICES, SO OUR NATION DOES NOT HAVE A SINGLE MACRO-ECONOMIC MAINSTAY OR LEVERAGE TO ENSURE THE GROWTH NECESSARY TO STABILIZE THE CEDI FREEFALL.
THIS IMF MONEY WILL GO DOWN THE DRAIN IN A TWINKLE OF AN EYE BEFORE MAHAMA IS KICKED OUT OF OFFICE.
MARK MY WORDS!!!!!!
NDC WILL NEVER LEAVE A CENT IN THE BANK OF GHANA VAULTS FOR ANY INCOMING GOVERNMENT TO INHERIT.
THAT'S THE CULTURE OF AFRICAN POLITICS, SO IT'S STRANGE THAT THE DUMMY IMF OFFICIALS ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS POPULAR "WINNER-TAKES-ALL" CULTURE OF CORRUPT AFRICAN POLITICIANS.

Below is what Mr. Min Zhu, Deputy Managing Director and Acting Chair of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Mr. Seth Emmanuel Terkper - Minister of Finance and Economic Planning both put across before the media and of course, the rest of the world. Now, acquaint;
The expected initial tranche of $114 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout is directed purposely to shore up the Bank of Ghana’s declining reserves and nothing was mentioned whatsoever about rescuing the cedi hence the $114 million to BoG.
In fact, the whole of the Bretton Woods' $918 million bailout programme is to restore debt sustainability and macroeconomic stability to foster a return to high growth and job creation while protecting social spending. That's all what it's about.

There were these three farmers that wanted to win the state fair contest for having the largest hog. They decide that they should stick a cork in the pigs ass and feed him for a month before the fair. The only problem was that none of them wanted to be the one to stick the cork in. So they bought a monkey and trained him to stick corks in bottles. After a week or two of this, they stick the monkey in the pen with the pig and a cork, and after a minute, the monkey did what he was supposed to do. The farmers fed the pig for a month and sure enough, they won first prize. Once they got home, they realized they still had to take the cork out. So they trained this same monkey to take corks out of bottles. They stuck the monkey in the pen with the pig, and the farmers woke up three days later in the hospital with a reporter sitting next to them. The reporter asked the first farmer, "What is the last thing you remember?" "Shit flying everywhere," the farmer replied. The reporter asked the second farmer the same question and got the same response. When she got to the third farmer and asked him what he could remember, he started crying. The reporter asked, "What's the matter?" The farmer replied, "The last thing I remember is the look on the poor monkey's face as he tried to stick the cork back in."

Fourth, harsh policy conditions are self-defeating when a vicious circle developed when members refused loans due to harsh conditionality, exacerbating the economy and eventually taking loans as a drastic medicine.
Lastly is the point that the IMF's policies lack a clear economic rationale. Its policy foundations were theoretical and unclear due to differing opinions and departmental rivalries whilst dealing with countries with widely varying economic circumstances.
