When Bawumia warned that our stupid spending spree will force us to go to the IMF, he was insulted. Was he right or wrong? We all know the pain that comes with the IMF program yet, we chose that path. Bad leadership surrounded by blood-hound dogs, is the reason why we are in this mess.
Those who will rubbish this warning should cast their minds back to JJ's era Structural Adjustment Program initiated by the IMF. It was very scary. That was one of the toughest era in the history of Ghana.

Right now, it is a different story. Going to the IMF at this time is poor spending and thievery. How much was pumped into SADA and what come out of it? Stealing at an alarming level as if there is no tomorrow, is the reason why we are going to the IMF. Trust me, if the IMF comes with their "self discipline" cost cutting measures, every Ghanaian will feel the pain and if our leaders have any sense, why should they spent money like drunken sailors for someone to come and tell them to be "prudent"?

The Saudis will most likely stand their ground unperturbed.They will not sit on that gigantic oil deposit and go hungry!A persistent low crude oil price will negate the benefits of our drop-in-the-ocean oil find.
About gold,the price now seemingly glued to an average of $1200/ounce,a fund management business in Texas has veered from the traditional holding of gold bullion derivatives to the physical storage of gold in order to influence demand and hold down price.Should there be any copy cats,then the price of gold should not be expected to reach the vicinity of the $2000/ounce that we tasted of very soon(at least,not during the presidency of John Mahama).The implication being low foreign exchange revenue/reserve,low GDP contribution and high unemployment in the gold mining sector.
In the absence of an IMF condition to withdraw subsidies on refined petroleum products in exchange for an enticing 'golden handshake',i would have suggested an impacting reduction in the aforementioned;the only way to take compensation from the mix-blessing of the crude oil price reduction.
Undoubtedly,the IMF bailout will provide an ephemeral relief.But it CANNOT prevent the economic shocks emanating from a strong US economy and currency,i.e. the dumping of gold as a store of value in favor of the US dollar,the destabilization of the Cedi and competition for capital consequent to capital flight towards the green back.
The NDC has solved all our socio-economic problems with their deafening trumpets(they have many of them!).Hence,the squandered opportunity to change the lives of majority of Ghanaians with the black gold discovery.They do not have the wherewithal to manage our economy.
Our plight has been as a result of poor leadership,try and error/reelection-motivated policies,property grabbing and massive
stealing.
The reason Ghanaians did not give the NPP another mandate to prolong the good days of JAK,but opted for gross incompetence is the missing piece of my puzzle.It will continue to beat my imagination.
I envisage a change of heart in 2016,the epitome of the prodigal son, for a turn around for the better.
Only capitalism will enrich us.So vote for the NPP come 2016!
