Nowadays businesses and government organisations have stopped demanding Secondary School Certificate or Basic Education Certificate.
Each of these certificates are important. For example for many tertiary graduates the only certificate that can tell whether one can speak good English or whether one has adequate knowledge of Mathematics is the Secondary School Certificate.
Similarly the only certificate that can tell whether a tertiary graduate has basic knowledge of Ghanaian history, culture, agriculture and the basic geography of West Africa is the Basic Education Certificate.

This is the way to create wealth and jobs in rural Ghana. The Rural Enterprises Project (REP) has played an important rolls in poverty alleviation.
Perhaps if the huge sums of money siphoned from the Ghana Youth Employment and Enterprise Developmentv Agency (GYEEDA) and Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP). had been given to the REP, instead of ending up in the pockets of crooks-in-high-places, it would have made a difference to the lives of tens of thousands of young people in rural Ghana.
One hopes that this innovative idea will help the residents of South Akyem District to improve their living standards.
This is what Ghana needs - not the endless bickering between the NDC and NPP - which threatens our nation's stability and long-term future. Bravo to the South Akyem District Assembly and the REP!

A thousand apologies to the Asante-Akyem South District Assembly. They have set the pace in the creation of a low-carbon green economy sustainable development model for rural Ghana - and deserve our congratulations.
It is such an economic model, not the destructive gold mining currently poisoning soils, streams, rivers and ground water across a vast swathe not the Ghanaian countryside, that will lead to a good quality of life for those living in rural Ghana,
One hopes that all the members of our nation's political class will take note of this - particularly those beholden to, and in the deep pockets, of the wealthy criminal syndicates behind most of the illegal gold mining in Ghana. A word to the wise...
