As for Dzifa Ativor anytime I see her on television or hear her on radio, I pray for long live for her. Infact she is a Presidential material as well as Sherry. These people can pull the feminine side of the supporters for Pres. Mahama. Mr. president dont contemplate dropping your current vice. Just drop him and go for any of these 2 great ladies in your govt and I bet you God will grant you smooth passage. Amissah Arthur is tired and must be drop after this lap. I am sorry those ladies dont even know me so nobody should insinuate anything. I am just a good observant. thanks

Please go on Line and read about how the Chinese manage these Tilapia farms. They feed the fish with so much filth that, in my opinion, they MUST NOT be imported into Ghana (and even any other country). Any immediate remedy for the more than 450 metric tonnes short supply? Isn't that detrimental to businesses that depend on the more than 450 tonnes needed? You are very correct. This is the time to ban Frozen Chicken and Turkey which have been created in factories all over the world. The tastelessness is not even the worry. These foods are genetically engineered and will only import diseases which Ghana is not setup to combat. Our homegrown foods are the best. Let's whip them up and create a healthy and job-creating society. Having said that, this administration should have had the wisdom to forewarn those in this sector before abruptly shutting down their various businesses.

Reading most of these comments show the simplistic nature some of us attach to solving problems.Being able to produce is quite beneficial for the economy and Ghana is general. It is very easy for Sherry Eyittey to come up with this directive but the crust of the matter is,what initiative has she put in place to help the producers or attract producers to fill the shotfall?.If nothing has been done then it is a wrong move.In fact production has become so expensive in Ghana that people have resorted to import instead.I know most of these people praising her now will be cursing her in no time when shortage of tilapia hits the markets and price rise.

Wouldn't out-rightly banning the importation of tilapia create an artificial shortage in the market, if the local industry can't keep up with the demand? The Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister should have placed a steep tariff on tilipia making it available and yet expensive to only those who can afford to pay for the fish. So in Ghana there's a ministry for fisheries and aquaculture, then I assume there's one also for agriculture. Shouldn't all that come under the umbrella of agriculture? Just asking.

While this might be a good move, I think it deserves a an in depth analysis to see if the ban will result in the desire outcome. Further, there is also a CORRUPTION in Ghana; some of these importers will get around the system by soliciting corrupt government officials or customs officers with BRIBES to get their tilapia into the country. There is a lot of work to be done, yet I commend her for this bold move. Good luck to her.
