This a fact. The Vice is not making excuses. If you have ideas on how Ghana can earn more foreign exchange apart from cocoa, gold and oil let us know.
Meanwhile, lets stay positive. The price of cocoa, gold and oil fluctuates. The dollar is going up because the USA Fed has pulled the stimulus package it was giving to the US stock market so the dollar is not cheap anymore. Expect the dollar to be higher in 2014

2. What did you do with the increased proceeds from Cocoa and Gold pre 2011 (when commodity prices where high)
"...cocoa price has seen a decline of about 20 per cent since 2011 while that of gold has gone down by 20 per cent since 2011. “In 2013, Ghana lost $1.3 billion potential export revenue due to price declines on these two products,”

Really? So what about the other significant contributors to the fall of the Cedi, such as the continued importing of goods linked to the liberalisation of the market and lack of strategic planning for industry export, the dollarization of the economy where everybody including government is paying for goods in $, the corruption of the ministries/port officials who demand to be paid in dollars, the foreign loans payments which are in $, the black market for foreign currency exchange, the lack of appropriate corporate tax being charged to foreign companies and on and on.
All these have contributed...looking to apportion the fall of the Cedi on the drop in prices for commodities/ mineral export is disingenuous and is the reason why this government is struggling...more concerned about spin and PR then the issues and yet Mahama talks about everybody working together..really, if someone was struggling and failing and then asks for help to work through a situation but continues to tell the same stories, talk breeze and behave without any serious show of being serious in working things out properly with you, would any of us in our personal lives entertain such a person....how much more the government of Ghana!
