Now, the question is, would this cash be put into good use? These 'stealers' are rubbing their hands with glee. The greedy bastards are ready to siphon the money.

They probably must give more, however, I agree that we must commend them for the attempt, because they are at least recognising something is due, unlike others.

tax payment is an obligation so we shouldn't be talking as if we are lucky to have received that money. Let us know how much they made and what percentage of the their profit is that 400million they are talking about.

If Newmont wants to continue to enjoy the goodwill of Ghanaians it must take active steps to prevent the future contamination of water sources and the pollution of natural habitats in its mining environs. Newmont needs to act responsibly from now on. The patience of Ghanaians has been tried to the limit by irresponsible mining companies acting with scant regard for the health and safety of Ghanaians. To our great shame those in authority often appear to turn a blind eye to the criminal practices of some mining companies.

This kind of a company Ghana really needs in the country. A company that honours its obligation to pay its tax to the state. Not the one which comes to milk the country's resources and gives nothing back.

Our leaders are so blinded by greed and corruption. Our lands have been destroyed by mining and galamsey. in spite of Ghana being the 6th biggest gold producer our national reserve has only 8 tonnes of Gold when the USA has over 8000 tonnes of Gold. Does this not tell us anything? Taxes are paid on how much profit you declare. With Ghana's weak tax system, these guys may be giving us a pittance of what they've really got. In which country in the world would a foreigner go and mine without permission and be armed with guns attacking its own citizens? Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin is living in Accra whilst chinese people are mining illegally behind his own kyebi residence and he doesnt even care. River birim which produces water for kyebi inhabitance is now undrinkable because of the kind of mining Newmount and their galamsey chinese miners are doing in the town. God have mercy on Ghana!!! Someone is even thanking Newmount in this forum. Thats how sad the state of affairs is in Ghana. No one knows, and no one cares. We are passionate about football and our country is being usurped and destroyed by foreigners.

So how much profit has Newmont made. and will it pay the windfall tax?
It is not enough telling us what you are doing for the country. Are you fulfilling all your tax obligations?
