This is a laudable idea since the microfinancing strategy in rural farming communities could embrace large number of farmers from subsistence to small and medium scale farming ventures. The issue we need to address, with the assistance of the central bank (Bank of Ghana), is the cost of capital to the farmers who may access funding facilities from the MFIs since their interest charges seem to be too high. As most of the yields from their agricultural produce are seasonal and mostly dependent on the favourability of the weather, the farmers who take such facilities may end up in huge debts to the NFIs.

Is Humado serious? This man is already a mess and a square peg in a round hole. MF insttitutions to support Agric? Does he know what he was talking about? Even the universal banks with minimum capital of 60million Ghana cedis are running away from financing agric and this man wants MF institutions with only 100,000.00 capital to support agric? Does he know the risk involved in agric financing? What a STUPID minister? Instead of him to work out schemes for the agric sector to access soft loans from bodies like MASLOC, he wants to erode capitals of private institutions? Since he took up the position, has he held any meeting with ADB to find out the percentage of their portfolio which is for agric? What a FOOLISH man who is also following the status quo by reading long speeches written for him which he did not understand, let alone think of their implications. And he claim his speciality is agric?Where are we heading to? God saves us!!!
