Fuel subsidy only feeds the rich even though it supposed to feed the poor. let us consider this, Rich man driving 4*4 vehicle on the average uses 15 litres but the poor in a tro tro vehicle that have capacity of 15. in this case the poor is subsidised at 1 whiles the rich takes 1. house boys errandss, wifes's car, girlfriend's child minders'etc. lets also look at electricity, the rich has about 1 or more air conditioners, the poor has a luxury of fan, rich has water to water lawns, flower beds, wash cars, the poor had only buckets full. Regardless, I wish to make this discussion to state a point.The issue of subsidy is mainly an issue of finance or money.Ghana needs money to be able to sustain its developmental program.There are lots of money around but we as a country are not tapping into these areas.
The many entities making lots of millions without paying tax is a major concern which need to be tackled rigorously.
Those traders making so much than those of us in the offices are contributing a dime to nation building.
Government can put up markets to accomodate and locate these traders to make it easier for identification for tax purposes.
The stalls buil are fixed assets that will last into the future and can be given out at manageable fees. The tax to be paid by these people will last a lifetime to the benefit of the state.
The fixation for short term decisions is the hinderance to the implementation of this exercise.It will be the good of this country if we move away from this short term decisions into medium and long term projects.
There are many ideas flowing into our minds but the opportunity to realise these is what we wait for.I know the time is coming soon for Ghanaians to enjoy the ''heaven'' they desire for on this earth.
