Ayorkor Chavez willing to ditch Ghana for Britain

Female boxer Naa Ayorkor Chavez has said she will not hesitate to change her nationality if the opportunity presents itself.

The Ghanaian lady boxer told Morning Starr’s Kafui Dey on Starr 103.5FM that the frustrations and difficulties bedeviling her career in Ghana are so serious that she would not mind fighting for another country.

According to her, if Britain, Nigeria or any other country offers to give her all the support she needs as a boxer, changing her nationality would not be a problem at all.

Among some of the problems Chavez complained about a lack of support from the Ministry of Sports for female boxers. She said they are left to fend for themselves in virtually every aspect of the sport.

She said the Ministry also does not help female boxers to secure visas from the embassies and high commissions of foreign countries to enable them travel outside to fight.

“When I have to travel, I have to buy my ticket…[and pay] my visa fee. I don’t have anything. You can fight and you collapse,” she bemoaned, adding that she was sick for two years and had no support from officialdom.
